Dirty fuel injectors and one stuck open injector resulted in my P3190 code and resultant P0A80 if that help anyone. The lack of power code and failure to start eventually drained my hybrid battery. I never received any misfire codes. Removed the injectors and had them cleaned and replaced the defective injector after checking spark, signal to injectors, fuel delivery, compression at each cylinder...... and I have MUCH more power and am back on the road at 475,000 miles.

Main thing I learned is that the engine spins around 1300 RPM when attempting to start. This fooled me into thinking engine was running when it was only pulling my hybrid battery to its eventual demise. Picked up salvage unit and had it fully charged by Houston Hybrid Battery for a small fee. Just thought I'd post and hope this helps anyone in a similar situation.

I wonder how much debri settles in the tank on high mileage vehicles? I wonder if it's worth it to obtain another tank.....since my injectors were so horribly dirty.

i haven't heard of any problems, but i don't know anything about vehicles with that kind of mileage.

Yeah, it's surprising how often we hear on these forums of someone toasting their hybrid battery due to a simple loss of engine power (for any of a variety of reasons, throttle body fouling, fuel injector problems, leaving a spark plug connector off, sometimes even something as simple as running out of fuel). While this shouldn't really damage a new or very good condition battery, the subsequent deep discharge can kill of a battery if it's a bit old and worn.

In my opinion, anyone driving a Prius (but particularly anyone driving an old Prius with a worn battery pack), should always keep an eye on the state of charge when driving. I've always done this, though that's kind of a "geek" thing on my part (some of the fun of driving a Prius for me is having an interest in what's going on with the state of charge and regen etc).

I know that some people prefer to just drive it like any normal car and not have to pay any attention to what the battery is doing at any given time, and I totally understand that, but people need to be aware that running an old battery down too low can finish it off.

What brand gaso do you normally use (TopTierGas.com?) and do you know if you are using RFG or not? I tend to think of RFG as cleaner fuel. Houston I think is RFG but the sorrounding areas may not be. Tend to think of water layer if present in your tank or the gaso station tank will pick up sediment.

On a vehicle with 475,000 miles? I'd say no and instead install a good in-line fuel filter.

I think this car should have had a fuel filter anyway :)

It does, but it is incorporated into the fuel tank. As I understand it, to change the fuel filter you need to change the entire fuel tank. (If I am wrong, can somebody please correct me?)

So the above suggestion to install an inline fuel filter may be more cost effective on your car, given the high milage and related resale value.

Yep. Nothing in that fuel tank is serviceable.

And BTW, I've cleaned two sets of injectors in the last two weeks. I have a feeling I'll be cleaning quite a few in the future.

Both Gen 1s, both around 250K, both misfiring at startup, both had misfire codes, one had CEL on.

Is this in-house, or do you send them out to a preferred cleaner?
