I have a 2005 Prius. I just pulled into the convenience store. Ran inside and got a drink. When I came out and started the car I got the red triangle with the message that says "problem". Turned the car off. After about 5 minutes or so I tried again and the triangle as gone and the car seemed to be running fine. I drove to OReillys and had them see if they could find a code and it came up P3056.

Is this something that I need to stop driving immediately or do have a few days to have checked out? Is it just something glitchy that happened? Anyone else have this happen?

You'll need to get to a hybrid specialist or Toyota dealer to read all the codes; some of which are Toyota specific and generic OBD readers like O'Reilleys can't see. P3056 is pointing to the hybrid battery. If it's still original, it's most likely a goner.

I've had to recondition the battery twice.

P3056 = Battery Current Sensor Circuit Malfunction

Here is the work up for the 2004 Prius, so should be also applicable for your 2005 - P3056 work up.

If you were able to recondition your battery, you should have the skill set to work through this.

I wish I had the ability to do my own reconditioning. I paid someone to do it.

I don't know if this is related or just a coincidence but I had to run over to my moms place and when I got in my car to lead the front display wouldn't come on.

Hard to say, could be either, and since you will have to rely on others to do the work, you may not necessarily find out one way or the other.
Sounds like you could have another problem. Search on "Combination Meter failure". there are plenty of posts about the issue. See also the link in my signature - Combination Meters that stop at 299,999 miles, Who's affected and what you can do about it. - as your car is a candidate for the retrofit, which you may as well do if you have to replace the combination meter anyway (if that's what it turns out to be).

Question on the Meter failure. When it goes does the entire front panel stop working? The replacement part looks like just the screen that has the odometer, fuel, and Drive/Park lights. The other lights off to the side aren't coming on either. If the Meter stops working does it make the other part stop working too?

I want to say around 160k to 170k. I usually keep it on the trip mileage screen so it's been a few months since I've seen the actual odometer.

I did check the fuses that looked like they might be attributed to this and they all looked fine.
