I'm still finding the delay in pedal response a little disconcerting, even in mode 2. I'll give mode 1 a go, and maybe progress to mode 2 after a couple of weeks. Perhaps the ideal mode depends on how much city driving, and therefore pulling away from junctions and traffic lights, you do. Once I'm up to speed I really like the smoothness that the Smartpedal offers.

    Marc,
I'm trying the modes in the extremis and have a quick question. What is the most similar mode in the extremis to the mode 3 in the advanced unit? Is it mode 4 or 5? The mode 3 in the advanced was my favorite and I'm curious.

I'm in mode 3 this week - didn't notice any difference in the feel, will see how she does when I fill up on Sunday.

    Hi daiske99,

The new modes 2 and 3 tightly bracket the old mode 3. I would recommend starting with 3. The difference between old and new 3 is a hair's breadth. Incidentally, modes 4 and 5 are super aggressive: you will notice changes.

    Most don't, but some do.

A small footnote on this topic from our development history:
Sometimes during testing we would deploy a "placebo" device (straight passthrough without modification) just to see whether the observer reported a change. We weren't trying to trick or embarrass anybody, but instead wanted to see what role personal psychology played in assessments.

As you may have already guessed, I was fooled by it. Attila now has a smaller officer strategically placed next to the bathroom.

I am a first time Prius owner of just 2 weeks and love driving the Prius.

I would like to buy a pedal box but there is no shipping option for Australia , I was also unable to get the discount code to work at checkout on the advanced model .

Can you ship to Australia ?

    Thanks Ian

Well... I had the worst mpg in mode 2 and 3 with the extremis. I have got the highest with mode 4 and 5 but can't tell which is better. Still couldn't beat the record of the previous unit.

    Hi daiske99,

That's interesting news. Besides adjusting the variables that control the modes, in the new software we worked to improve the underlying efficiency of the core algorithm. I'd like to see more data to verify, but it's possible that we inadvertently reduced the overall efficiency of the system as a whole.

May I send you a second unit with the older software for you to compare/contrast against the new under similar driving conditions? Ideally it would be a 400 vs 400 mile comparison. Sorry for the extra work, but I'd like to see what delta shows up. You're probably an expert at install/removal by now.

Sure. Please send me the old unit. I used to get 57mpg or higher with the old unit in mode 3 but 54-55mpg with the new in mode 4 and 5 (52-53 in mode2 and 3). Please note that the temperature in ga is higher than before though. It was 85-88f and 90-95f now. It might have affected the difference. What do you think?

    Hi daiske99,

The rule of thumb is that AC use drops mileage by about 10%. This is only a rule of thumb, which can vary a lot in actual practice. Plus, I get the sense that you were already using AC, but possibly using it more in recent weeks.

So let's play it safe and re-test with the older software in the current weather. I appreciate your testing: out of curiosity, how long does it take you to swap out a unit at this point?

    I'll ship by Tuesday, fyi.

    Hi Buderim,

I'll check rates and get back to you, but I think we can do that. We will likely ask that all new orders be placed through our crowdfunding campaign. We're working to set a launch date.

Actually I got little less mpg when driving the same course where I used to get little over 70mpg, around 64 mpg. It was after 10pm do it was not that hot. Well we will see if the temperature was the factor.I'm cutouts too.
By the way what do you mean by how long it takes? You mean how long it takes to install? It takes 10 to 15 mins for me.

    Hi daiske99,

Good to know about the time of day, temp and mileage. I'll do my best to ship to you on Monday.

For the Prius, 10-15 mins to install is a lot. Are you removing the pedal? That would probably require that amount of time. There's a simpler way, though: look for the "finger" of plastic that holds the under dash panel in place above the pedal. If you slowly (it's not fragile) pull it back, the underdash panel above the pedal will release, leaving you plenty of room to install without removing the pedal.

Because of the lighting, close quarters and odd angle, releasing the underdash above the pedal is a very hard thing to capture on video, but I will give it a shot this week. I plan to do some before/after of the HSI as well, and have those videos side-by-side in the same display so it's easy to contrast. The latter is really a marketing task, but it's cool to see the difference.

Yes I had to remove the pedal as I can't see the lock.but I will try not to remove it this time.
And yes, it will be very nice to have the video so customers can be educated before the installation by watching the video.

Mode 3 results from last nights fill up

traveled 457.1 miles (avg speed per dash 39mph) AC on but not automatic, set to low and fan at lowest setting.

fill up last night took 6.82 gallons - if math is correct 67.02 mpg and IMO I really can't tell any difference in the petal. I drive like I always do,

Hope others will post their results.

Well well, after a complete tank full with the SmartPedal attached, there's quite a difference. Also, at the next fill up, the predicted miles for that tank was 568, versus roughly 520 before. The third and fourth results anomaly (before SmartPedal) is probably due to me not filling the tank to the same level, so I'll have to see how the next fill up goes. But early signs are good.

And I've definitely got used to the accelerator pedal feeling like it's on an elastic band. Screenshot_20170727-072859.png

Following on from my previous message, I was using mode 2. Have just switched to mode 3 and will update when I have something to report.

    Hi.

Today I have installed Smartpedal and found too much lag in the accelerator response (I drive in ECO mode). I had problems getting out of my community car park, whose exit is narrow, curved and uphill, so I tried to change the Smartpedal mode several times, but I don't know in which mode I am now (The video has been somewhat blurry, I will try to repeat it):

For anyone who knows;.....Do we preform the "Calibration/Procedure" each time we change modes?? .....
