Just happened, Dash lights (speed ) went blank, could not remove key fob. zdealer said looks like a key/speed/ controller or key mod. went bad. Will take a wile to get on. Cost approx. $1400.00. Dealer said he has seen it before but not often. They found one locally but here is an additional problem, the unit the dealer has has been set at the factory at 198,000 miles, whils my Prius only has 157,000 miles. They will provide me a letter stating this!!!!!!! It sounds to me that they found a used unit locally and are installing this. Am I just being foolish or what??

    PLEASE HELP.

Very rare failure indeed - wasn't there a free recall / repair from Toyota for this problem on certain year models? That cost was definitely eye-watering...!!!
