YOU need to develop a little patience.
It has been less than 3 hours since your first post.......and people don't just SIT on this site waiting to pounce on new questions.
    Well, MOST users don't anyway.

Just from the pictures, which may be a poor representation of the actual situation, it appears to me that there is a very minor scrape to some under-carriage parts which might not affect the operation or integrity of the vehicle AT ALL.

But you really need a second professional opinion.
You might have a beef with the selling dealer .......but going after a previous owner: RIDICULOUS.

P.S. And if you want quality answers from people in places like this, you NEED to pay attention and answer the questions that they pose. Not doing so is just rude.

I'm getting the sense the splash shield is either off, or gone, and that the car high-ended over something like a curb stop. I think this area (I highlighted in yellow) is abrasion from that encounter:

And the transaxle housing has cracked due to that hit.

Obviously, in hindsight: doing a second party inspection before the sale would have been preferable. But here she is. And an independent second party is saying there's a crack in the transaxle housing. This should be easy to verify, and the seller is a dealership. They're the other party, the "previous owner". And it's been like a week since the sale.

I don't think we know ANY of that for sure......because the OP won't clarify the situation for us.

AND someone else suggested going after the previous owner and user; the one before the selling agency. THAT is just silly.

P.S. I once had a respected Honda dealer tell me I had a cracked transmission housing.......when the leak really was caused by a bad gasket. The "crack" was a molding mark. They were a bit embarrassed but didn't give me any discount off the eventual fix.

Carfax has a guarantee, I'd try them if the dealer doesn't come through. The underside looks to be clean from the photos so I'd say do the following.

    1. Place a piece of cardboard under the Prius. See if it leaks. If it's not leaking, great! The leak could even be a leak in the transmission line/hose.

    2. Go to another Toyota dealership and get a second opinion. This dealer may be trying to screw you over.

    3. Ask Carfax, sounds silly but if your vehicle had a pre-existing problem then Carfax may be able to help with the cost. (Their guarantee is on their reports).

Thank you everyone for the guidance. We took the car to the dealer who sold and apparently they are unaware of these issues.(their mechanic also confirmed). We asked for an exchange and they agreed.so we are going to get another pre owned car( after thorough inspection) from the dealer.

Thanks once again for all your responses.

A cautionary tale. Glad it had a happy ending of a kind. But the next buyer, beware.
