Does [you] want the [you] tag consigned to the trash heap of annoying stuff?

I remember the first time I got caught with the use of the [ you ] tag about a year ago. Danny had posted something a bit "colorful" and then said someting about "not being so sure about AnOldHouse?" I couldn't figure out why the heck he would have posted something about me personally, I'd only been on the board for a few weeks. Although I was very confused, I just kept the confusion to myself and didn't post a reply. When I realized what was going on, I thought it was quite funny. Apparently, it hadn't been used in quite some time at that point.

I looked at it as a sort of "hazing," an initiation ritual into the PriusChat group.

I think that the occassional use is really damn funny, but has been grossly overused lately, making it very annoying. I won't use it myself because I don't really think it's appropriate for me to do so.

I thought it was great fun at first, and the people who didn't get the joke made it even funnier for those of us who did. I was looking forward to *more* tags we could play with, but I see now the humour is past its 'best before' date. Ah well, it was fun while it lasted. :)

So far 144 of us (out of about 10,000!) have voted and 78.5% of these favour abolishing it. Perhaps not enough for a democratic decision so maybe we need a lot more votes. But perhaps a 3rd option should be added to the poll: 'Retain the "you" tag but only for the use of management and approved or privileged users.'

That would have been a good third choice, but you'll never get this many people to vote on it a second time.

Only one person's "vote" on the matter means anything, anyway. :)

I've decided to appease the masses and remove the [you] tag. It's very funny to use on a limited basis, but people started to use it for more than it was intended, and after reading this thread it's fairly obvious that most people would like to see it toned down.

But watch out, you never know when it's going to pop up in the future!

I think Danny is starting to learn that there is more to it running a forum like this. Ah yes, time will help.

Oh man, thought it was fun. On a limited basis, of course. On the other hand, like said before, sometimes [they] used it to much and annoyed [everyone].
