ok, im not poo-pooing the Fusion. my sis works for Ford and the Fusion is a nice car. one of their best sellers. but to mention it in the same sentence with the Prius is like saying that the president of the US and a bum on the street are both hum... wait a sec, forget that example...

you know what i mean. the two cannot be compared. unless its a hybrid, its a waste of time and i think we all know that we are driving the best hybrid.

Even if the survey were statistically significant, it only measures initial quality. For someone who is thinking long term for overall costs, including environmental, how a car feels in the first week is pretty much irrelevant. Sorry, JD.

I'm not crazy about the painted plastics used in the Prius vs. the original plastics used in the Classic.. Paints just scream "cheap", and they are not durable at all when subjected to rubs and bumps but unfortunately, it seems the way everything is headed because it's cheaper to do.. Even other makes including Honda/Acura are using painted plastics for their interiors vs. the high quality pigmented, grained soft-feel plastics..

If the rankings are based on the number of quantifiable dealer service calls, then I would be very suspect of the numbers. The Prius utilized technology unfamiliar or non intuitive to a traditional American car buyer so I would expect increased service calls based upon a drivers unfamiliarity with the technology rather than an actual problem with the vehicle.

90 days. The "initial quality" is a different survey.

Oh, man, you mean I have to read something and think about it before having an opinion? This is gonna change everything. Quite right, jk, it's 90 days and not even the survey I thought. My bad.

Do you think some of those Porschephiles might have a different opinion after paying for the first tune up?

    Great!!! Wonderful!!!

Ford has a Prius killer...uh...oh...I see it's not a hybrid and...well...c'mon Ford, make the Fusion a full hybrid while the car is hot and popular...don't wait the few years when it starts having issues.

Do it now or wait for the new Prius in '09, then have the bar raised yet again and have to play more catch-up.

I didn't care for the Fusion when I went looking for more Ford hybrids...I actually thought they were gonna build it soon! Not my taste...love the future look and feel of the Prius, not the run-of-the-mill Ford interior.

But, hey, if it attracts different people, so be it. Make it a full hybrid, make it less expensive than Prius, then sit back and see people lined up to get it...well, those that like that type of interior/look...to each their own.

    Cheers,

    Curt.

Too many new Prius owners getting 10mpg less than the sticker says they should...

and spending way more on their new chiropractor than they are saving in fuel after spending some time in that famously unconfortable Prius seat.

I can see how the fusion could rate higher. Those people weren't expecting great mileage so they weren't disappointed in it.

My wife's 1997 Mercury Tracer (aka Ford Escort) is sure a junker with 87,000 miles on it... It hasn't needed any abnormal repairs and runs as expected... it's just not nice.. not quiet.. But, it's paid for and she still likes it..

My 1999 F250 Ford was super solid. 110,000 miles until I traded for the Prius. No squeeks, no repairs needed, still running with original serpentine belt, batteries and other expendables. That thing was very nice through 6.5 years and all those miles. I think Ford does a better job on their F series pickups and the big SUV's and goes cheap on the little cars.
