Is this 2012 Prius on craigslist something I should steer clear from?

Cant post links, so I'll just copy/paste it

I've heard Prius's can often go strong into 300,000+ miles, but at 460,000 miles it has me skeptical. The nice thing is how they are making it clear they want to provide all service records, and that it has a new engine. The interior being covered the whole time too is nice. It seems like its still good as new. But There's gotta be things that could go wrong at any moment right?

I've VERY tempted. What do you Prius experts think?

"2012 Prius, 460,000 miles very well maintained cab. Clean, one owner, has a new engine and has had three batteries since new. Interior covered since day one. Clean Oregon title with nearly new tires. 2018 Oregon tags. All service records since day one available. 44 mpg. Looks like a new car. I can paint it back to its original black color for about 700.00. Drive it and check it out anywhere. The owner of this cab was very meticulous. Prefer a call to an email. Thanks for looking."

The pictures show that it used to be a cab, but it looks to be in perfect condition.

Only you can make that decision.

I prefer to buy vehicles that haven't been thrown up in for a few years.

You forgot one very important detail.... PRICE?
After that factor is revealed, maybe someone can make an evaluation.

That was the price for repainting back to original black. It's probably yellow now. My daughter's 2002 Nissan Altima has 245,000 miles on it. New engine at 180,000 according to the trustworthy person I bought it from a couple years ago. It doesn't have any major issues - a door courtesy light that won't light up and needs new struts. I've only put a new battery in it so far.

New engines are one thing but in a hybrid such as the Prius you are looking at replacing hybrid battery which is VERY expensive.

It's already had three battery replacements! I thought the pacnorthwest/BC were so easy on batteries.

To answer the OP's question: No. Everything on the car has been running pretty much 24/7/365 to accrue all those miles.

I'm not talking the 12V battery....I'm referring to the hybrid battery....

That's not the way I interpreted that but, yeah, it could be either (doesn't specifically say). Either way, it wouldn't change my advice: skip it.

Still, the OP hasn't indicated a price for the vehicle. Seems a little suspect that he hasn't come forth with that information.

That's a lot of miles. But if the price is cheap enough and you don't mind an occasional upset in reliable transportation or have funds set aside for an expensive repair, got for it.

I would think anything a cab company doesn't want, you probably won't want it either.

True except keep in mind a lot of cab and even ride-share style programs have age limits on cars. A 2012 may soon be too old for the fleet and would be retired only because of age and no other reason.

Like I said, not every company is the same. And then some pickup spots are different. Some cities are different.

For example the Atlanta airport as of this year doesn't allow taxis to pickup passengers that are 7 years or more old versus a 10 year limit before 2017. Then if you pick a company like Uber, it is city dependent. 6 years or newer in NYC. 15 years or newer in Denver. Same company.

Obviously every market is different but there are WAY better deals around here.
