Are you saying we will see even bigger price incentives here on the 2017 Prius Prime models, before the 2018s are in stock? Right now, in the NE, you can get up to $3,500 off the MSRP... until 9/05.

Price in Europe starts at around €35,000 (29,000 without VAT) and no discount that I'm aware of on that price, no wonder they are selling slowly here, but IMO until they fill demand elsewhere Toyota is in no rush to offer dicounts in EU. We have seen similar situatin with PiP starting price was high but after a year or two they droped it.

That IS the tough question. I would like to take advantage of the $4500 tax credit on this years return, besides really wanting to get into the Prime. As for the "illusory" Clarity Plug-In, it does have a certain vaporware feel to it, and Honda really doesn't have the hybrid bloodline like the Prius. The real advantage there is we already own an Odyssey (so internal controls, infotainment, etc. all the same), and you can get incredible deals on HondaCare (OEM) extended warranties, because Honda let's any dealer sell you a warranty. We got a 6yr/120k bumper to bumper warranty on a 2018 Elite for $1015, about 40% of what our Honda dealer insisted on for a third-party extended warranty policy (basically insurance to make claims against). Our Toyota dealer is quoting $2500-3000 for ToyotaCare on a Prime, and I'm leery of all the new gadgetry in the Prime.

which begs the question, why are they giving a $1,000. rebate in cali, yet cannot meet demand?

but that would mean they can't sell enough without the rebate. and they never even tried, there was a rebate right out of the shoot.

The real question is how much profit do they have with the rebate, or is the only profit ZEV credits?

If I read correctly some of you guys paid ~$25,000, that would translate to around €28,000 with all the taxes in EU, IMO it would be a big selling hit at that price.

i understand losing money for needed credits, but i don't understand leaving money on the table for no reason. if the cars weren't selling, like up here in the northeast, the rebates make more sense.

I never asked EG for a test drive on the Prime. I test drove one at Folsom Lake and Roseville wants you in their showroom. I must say the test drive at Folsom was low key and no pressure to buy. The problem I had with test driving the Prime, the dealers don't recharge the battery so the EV function won't work. At that point, you are test driving a standard Prius.

Why are they not selling well in the NE?

When will the dealers ever learn? Had the same issue. I asked the dealer "is the battery charged?" "Oh yes of course, how could it not be". I test drive, and the battery is empty.

    Some reasons:
    - cold snowy winters
    - lack of good state incentives
    - lack of HOV lane advantage
    - love of SUVs - roads are dominated by them
    - way cheaper fuel than for example California

It is a very sophisticated marketing plan:
    • to not canibalize the vibrant, expanding, fuel-cell market
    • encourage out-of-state sales
    • claim that nobody wants them
    • preserve production for the Japanese market
    • further piss-off California after moving USA HQ to Texas
    • use up surplus CARB credits

WOW - all except number one describes Texas exactly, and you could replace that with "blistering hot summers with excess AC wear" - I should be getting a $4000 rebate in that case! We have NO state incentive; "O" in HOV strictly means occupants (plural); NO OTHER STATE has more full size SUV's and pickup trucks than Texas, PERIOD; and our fuel prices are rock bottom compared to the NE, much less California....

WELL - looks like I am now a Prius Prime 2018 owner in waiting. Our local dealer put an order in with Gulf States last month for another customer, and they were told today it will be a December delivery at best. Unless I come up there where you guys have the great rebates, no dice for 2017, and that close to the new model release (even if there is no change - other than the obvious price increase) I'm stuck waiting for 2018 to arrive.

I ordered June 30 and delivery is expected at the end of October. It will be a 2017.

Why not hold out for a 2018 model?

Because I don't want to wait. 2017 vs 2018 is just a number difference. No features are different. I want the tax credit while I "know" it still exists and about 85 other reasons I won't detail here.
