You'll find pictures and words about my Prius recall service today.

 

cars that are being sold today are way past the end of the production range for the recall. you've got nothing to worry about. anything built after early 06 is in the clear.

and a noteworthy aside- if there are vehicles on a dealer lot that require a recall job to be done to them, toyota will not allow these vehicles to leave the dealer's posession without having performed the recall work first.

d'oh.

i just got back from a 6th month "voyage"... and my mom took care of my car for me while i was gone.

anyway, the week before i got back (last week), she took my car to the toyota dealer to have it all checked out. they changed the oil (sigh, i've been doing this myself! haha) and replaced all fluids, checked the tires, etc.

but when i was sorting through my mail, i got the recall papers. toyota didn't fix this while it was in their possession! and just my luck, i got a nail in my tire too... so i get to visit toyota for 2 reasons.

ok i don't know if this all makes sense b/c i'm groggy right now, sorry.

Any noise or rattles after the recall was done? I noticed that some dash parts were removed and to me this always means that rattles will follow. I hate rattles!!!

Ditto here - rattles drive me nuts. I had the work performed today, and made specific note (written and verbal) to check for rattles and be sure the dash was reassembled properly before releasing the vehicle. Some others on this board had reported rattles, rumbles, etc., so I tried to nip it in the bud by mentioning it before the work occurred. So far no noises, the steering wheel is properly centered per my request (well, close enough, anyway), and everything seems to have been reassembled correctly.

 

I wasn't aware that dash disassembly was required for the steering recall. Isn't the part underneath?

 

as I've had the dash apart twice in the 2k4 I can honestly say the design is made not to rattle. That was my first comment after taking it apart the first time, Wow no rattles. All that is apart there is the lower dash panel and the left A/C vent. Just to allow a bit of room to get in there and take it out. I'd be more worried about turning the steering wheel and breaking the Air Bag clock spring when the shaft assy is out.

Yep, but in order to reach and replace that part, you have you remove the steering column hole cover, the no. 1 instrument panel (piece that surrounds the left-hand A/C vent), and the lower instrument finish panel (piece of the dash below the steering wheel and immediately above the seated driver's legs).
