    I am not en expert but a proper reconditioning, a slow and controlled discharge perhaps more than once, and similar charge cycle would take a WHOLE lot longer then overnight ....

    SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME!

    I just bought a used 2010 Prius yesterday. Today I took it to get washed and was driving fine, a few
    hours past. Drove it to the garage and all these lights came on. Only the ICE runs, but no sign of the electric motor turning on, however I do hear a click in the cargo area once I turn the car off. I only put 40 miles! Lucky,
    they offered me 3 months warranty on both engines. The battery is part of the engine, right??

    welcome!
    no, but you need the battery to start the engine. the engine is under the hood with the tranny. the battery is in the back. you have a 12v and traction battery back there. the electric motors are in the tranny. (ecvt)

    There is one gasoline engine and the transaxle contains two electric “motor / generators”.
    MG1 is used as a motor to start the engine and as a generator to charge the traction battery from the engine.
    MV2 is used as a motor to drive the wheels and as a generator to charge the battery when braking.
    The engine is used to charge the traction battery and to assist driving the wheels at higher speeds.

    In addition to the high voltage battery, there is a small 12 volt battery that is charged from the larger one. This battery is used to boot up the computer systems and for lights, etc.

    First thing I do tomorrow is contact the dealer and inform them about this issue. NOT okay to sell a car in this condition and will demand them to repair it. I have work tomorrow and now forced to take the subway to work. :( I've noticed the battery jumping from 9 bars to 2 bars. I had a feeling the battery was bad. One reason it took me this long to get a Prius.

    The 12volt battery should be fine then as the lights and ICE turns on.

    I contacted the dealer and explain what happened to the car. They keep insisting its the 12v battery that needed to be jumped before sale. They're going to have their mechanics look into it as they're going to fix it as I'm still under warranty for the hybrid system or battery he said.

    Let's see what happens..

    If they needed to jump it, they knowingly sold it with a bad 12 Volt battery. Is there any good reason to trust them? What else is bad, waiting to be discovered? I would return it and get a refund if at all possible. I fear this could be a money sink.

    return it, you can read about 2010's and 11's blowing motors due to oil consumption .. many posts in the gen 3 section

    Yes, you most likely are under warranty. If you bought a California car, then you'll have a 10 year/150k miles warranty on your hybrid battery. That is much better than the 8 year/100k mile warranty most of the rest of the country receives.

    As long as it's a California car and under 150k miles, you'll be fine, IMO. Make sure a new OEM battery gets put in, if needed.

    If you have the proper equipment, it can be done pretty quickly. I can charge, discharge, and balance 30KW packs within hours using high end power supplies and load boxes with custom BMS circuitry. I do doubt that this repair shop has these tools are skills to use such equipment, but basing it off of time alone can't be done.

    The click in the back is the normal 12v relays to connect and disconnect the HV battery from the car. When you turn the car on, you will hear a click-click-click from the back and turning off you will hear a single click.

    If you have driven 40 miles, then the HSD is working. The Prius cannot run in ICE mode only. It can reduce its power usage from the MGs to minimal because of a failed HV pack (or even if it is hot), but it won't move without the MGs working. And the ICE won't startup without them working. This is not a Honda IMA style system where the two work independently.

    As to the OP, replacing bad modules in a pack with more old modules is a silly procedure now. All the good donors are gone unless you can get a 2015 wrecked, but the rebuilders are gobbling them up before you'd be able to or any little shop could buy them. A new pack is your best option, whether that be new from Toyota or new cells in your old pack.

    It turns out the hybrid battery needed to be replaced.
    They currently have the car and will be ready for pick up by the end of this week as they needed to order a replacement.

    I miss the car! I don't think I would of gotten a Prius If my car wasn't totaled.
    I'm still waiting for my model 3 by April.

    Great. Make sure that, first, it's not an aftermarket battery but a genuine new Toyota battery and that it doesn't have a "-84" as the last digits on the part number. That means it's a rebuilt unit and AFAIK, those are only available in California.

    Rebuilt batteries are generally rebuilt with used modules. Even those with warranties can last anywhere from days to years, many times less than a year.

    From everything posted here, it's night and day, although there's also usually a big difference in price.

    My last post on Monday was incorrect, as I assumed you'd be within the warranty. If you have 177k miles, you'd be 27k miles over the warranty. I'm a bit surprised that you would be under warranty- did you buy a unique extended warranty, which covers the traction battery?

    Or did your dealer contact Toyota N.A. and arrange for a good will battery to be installed for free? If so, you are very fortunate.

    In my experience with some other parts (calipers, though, not batteries), the difference between a Toyota -84 rebuilt part and "rebuilt parts" you find elsewhere can be substantial. I've not tried a Toyota -84 battery though, so I can't comment directly on that.
