2006 Prius base with 200,000 kms which I just purchased. Here's what is happening after a week or so of what seemed to be flawless operation. I have been somewhat mesmerized and obsessed with the energy monitor screen. 2hat I am noticing occasionally is this. As I slow to a stop the energy monitor will show a switch to hybrid battery eventhough the gas engine is still running. After coming to a complete stop the energy monitor shows no activity while the gas engine continues to run. I then watch as the fuel consumption numbers rise to 99.9 l/100 km and then count back down to 0. When it reaches 0 the gas motor will bump and shudder off. That whole process takes a few seconds. I have noticed the hybrid battery usually has around 6 bars of charge although it has happened at all levels. It has also done it with A/C on and off. Any thoughts? Thank you.
Yes, it is quite normal, but that is not the reason for the behavior. This is the warm up cycle moving from stage 3a/3b to stage 4. It should only happen once per drive cycle. You can read all about the 5 stages of warm up by following the related link in my signature.
No time, it starts afresh on each restart. However, the less time between restarts, the quicker it zooms to stage 3a/3b.
