    hi all,

I am looking into purchasing a 2012 Prius with 31,000km on it and have a few questions.

They noted that there is an extended warranty until 2017, and that the brakes were serviced and have been worn 40%. Is this a normal amount of wear at ~20,000 miles?

It is a lease return. They noted that there is a part of the door that was broken (the "plastic part on the inside") not due to an accident but because the person caught the door on something.

Any red flags? What packages/features should I look for in this model?

welcome. brakes are a funny thing on the prius, most never wear, but some have a lot of problems. i would ask for details, front, rear, both? that is a lot of wear for 31km. i can't see any other red flags from your info. what package is it? is it a toyota dealer? i would read the extended warranty if you're interested. it's only 2 more years, but hopefully covers the 3 year stuff. all the best!(y)

Thank you! It is a Toyota dealer. I am not sure what package it is, but it does have Bluetooth and does not have heated seats.

They said that it's not abnormal brake use, but it seems high to me so may be a warning sign...

I am hoping to get some advice on buying a used 2012 Prius as well.

Im looking at a Prius V 5, from 2012 looks brand new, seems like its in excellent condition and my mechanic said it was in good shape. but the odometer reads 145000. Is that too high? ive never bought a used car and i have never owned a Prius, so not really sure, if its different in this way, but i don't think i would buy a gas car with over 100K on the odometer. What do you think?

With very limited information, here's my initial thought....you're located in SF, which means you are in a CARB state. That means you are lucky to receive a 10 year/150k mile warranty on your hybrid battery. Most of us have the 8 year/100k mile warranty. This particular car would have 5k miles remaining on the warranty.

It doesn't mean that it'll need replacing at 151k miles, but personally, I'd look for something with lower miles if your budget can afford it. Ideally, you'd purchase a 2012 that will have a warranty that can last until 2022.
