I filled up yesterday for the first time, after driving 1100 miles in 3 weeks, a whole $17 worth. I made more long trips than usual. I expect to get 4 weeks out of a tank normally. Once I can recharge at work (charging stations coming sometime before fall), I'll be likely to forget I can use gas. (I commute 26 miles each way.)
At first I thought this might work out. But I'm on my third tank from January and it is now down to slightly less than 1/4 tank. The tank trip meter is ~1,200 miles and climbing. When I was working, my one-way commuting distance was ~10 miles and I often combined it with a trip for groceries, prescriptions, or a drink after work. But I had already adopted the practice of shopping near L2 chargers. In effect, running pure EV for most of my miles around town. Retired, the miles have been supporting my wheel alignment studies. If I make it to January 2018, we'll have to track our Prius Prime tanks by the year and month. Bob Wilson
filled up today, 1125 miles, 9.3 gal, 2.549 Costco. With typically 500-600 miles/week I'm at less than half on gas cost compared to my Gen3 and on bi-weekly vs weekly ... Love my Prime
I got 1023 miles for my first fillup, about 9.2 gallons, came to like 20 and change at 2.27/gal (speedway in NY). I'm expecting more on the next fillup. The car came with about 45 miles already on it which likely brought it down, add in that my fiancee has been using it for her long commute into the city every day and she's not much of a hyper-miler.
At 5589 miles, I filled up with 7.465 gallons, $20.00. I had driven 1525 miles on this fill up, so including my electric charging, I averaged 204.3 (miles/gal). I had gone 5 weeks without buying gas! When I was driving civics or the Type R, I would buy gas every 3 days! My whole life has changed!! .
I've had it for about a month with 400 miles and only 8 of them on the ICE. If it weren't for a 700 mile trip coming in August i don't even know if i would need gas next year.
Do you charge at work? And I described my commute and driving style in a post called "my ev range story"... that might answer some questions for you
We purchased our Prius Prime Advanced on April 25, 2017 and today, July 13, we filled up the gas tank for the first time. 2115 miles, 8.231 gal @ 2.779/gal or 257 mpg.
Darn. I bought my Prime at the end of March. I thought I was doing great when I got 1000 miles on the tank of gas from the dealership... even though I had to push all the way to "Empty" fuel gauge and coast into a gas station. I see this isn't as impressive as I thought. In my defense, I had a few long trips without re-charging.
Just filled up for the first time at 1465 miles. Picked up the car from the dealership on 7/27. I could have driven for atleast 3-4 more days of my normal commute before needing to fill up, but I'm traveling on Friday, so I wanted to start full!
First fill up at about 1/2 a tank on Friday because I was planning a weekend trip. had 1007 miles on the tank and it took 6.235 gallons. That's 161.5 mpg ignoring electric costs. My EV driving ratio was 80%
Filled up my Premium for the first time on the 10th of September (prior to making a road trip of about 115 miles... to Indy and back). ODO read 581 miles, and it took 6.1 gallons to fill it... or about 95 mpg. BUT... of those 581 miles, about 345 were HV, while only about 235 were EV. HV miles should be increasing now... that's to say "proportionally" increasing. Since filling up just four days ago, I've driven nearly 175 miles, but the fuel "gauge" is showing about 7/8 of the tank remains.... PS / EDIT: When I got gas on the 10th, the fuel gauge was BARELY below the half-full mark....
Did my first fill-up (Dealer gave it to me full on 51 miles so I added the 51 mile to Fuelly so I can track the entire life of the vehicle). I have a 29 mile commute (1-way) so half my commute is on EV and the rest in eco mode. I made it 1,111 miles on that tank and it took 8.913 gallons of fuel. That 124.65 miles per gallon (and a nightly EV charge).
Isn't comparing MPG a little...incomplete? I think it's cool to see how little gasoline people use, but I find overall energy efficiency (including electric) more interesting. I don't want to be wasteful with electricity either. You can get nearly infinite MPG if you do nearly all EV driving, but you could be logging horrible miles/kWh. What I find useful (above or in addition to MPG) is the MPGe, even if only moderately accurate. From my initial look, the only easy way to calculate MPGe is this: EV, HV, MPGe calculations... | PriusChat. I'm curious on others' opinions on comparing MPGe (instead or in addition to MPG) and if there is any easier way to look at it (it really only requires jotting down 4 values on a periodic basis).
So how can one calculate actual HV MPG? If the "%EV" stat includes ICE-off driving while in HV mode then that would explain how come I calculate around 38 MPG for our last fillup, since it indicated 81% EV for 1660 miles and it took 8.4 gal. Or is the only way to know for sure to zero a trip odometer and then drive in HV-only for some significant distance? That would also help to show what the EV % was in regular HV driving.
