I'm trying to figure out how to save all of my charged up EV (about 32.6 miles EV) for the National Electric Car show that's 54.7 miles away from where I live. A while back I selected HV on the EV/HV button but while driving the car continued to eat away at my EV miles. Can I really save all my EV for later or is that just a pipe dream?

try charging up, warming up the car, then plugging in again. see how many miles it eats in hv mode with a warm engine.

Bisco makes a good point. There is not a lot of solid info on the Prime yet. Try it and let us know. Most of what I see is from either the PIP or earlier generations of the hatchback. The real concept is to maximize mileage, which may or may not mean maximizing EV. Somebody must be getting 1000 mile tanks, but I don't see them here.

On a few long road trips, I've switched to HV mode at startup to preserve the EV battery. It saved about 90% of the range indicated on the EV range display. It would fluctuate up and down a couple of miles but stay within 2-3 miles of the original EV estimate. The EV range indicated at startup was around 32-33 miles. I could drive hundreds of miles in HV mode and still have 29-32 EV miles remaining.

I wanted to preserve the EV mileage in case of an emergency: such as long blockages on the road due to accidents, stranding in a snow storm or inability to find an open gas station in the middle of the night, etc.

I thought of saving the EV mileage like someone who would keep an extra gallon of gas in the trunk for emergencies.

That is correct. I tried the HV charge mode, it would only charge to 80%, about 25-26 miles EV range.

Yeah, force charge is ok but very inefficient, my goal is to save EV that is "off the wall" sort of speak:p

of course, but no one at the swap meet is going to know that. and force charge may be an interesting feature for some people.

I'm at 1200 miles (from dealer), I still don't know what my gas cap looks like.
I haven't filled up (3/8 tank) , because I don't want to drag around gas lbs since I'm not using them...

It was meant as a joke (as in I don't need to fill up, therefore I don't have to look at my gas cap)

  20. I wonder though, if the gas sits in there for that long (how many months has it been?), that if it's E10, water will start to collect, and some of that fuel may break down a bit or affect the fuel system. Although I read that it's a pressurized fuel system (manual page 357), so maybe that is meant to eliminate water adsorption. But I saw in the manual, page 96:
    Have you seen that yet?
