If you don’t want to subscribe to Toyota TIS, here are some alternatives:
    • Find a public library that sponsors access to the ChiltonLibrary service for its patrons; most of the text and illustrations from the Repair Manual are available in this database, albeit with a somewhat different structure and without the Electrical Wiring Diagram or New Car Features books.
    • Subscribe to Toyota-Tech.eu (from € 3 for one hour, plus your card issuer’s foreign transaction fee, if any), where you’ll find essentially the same text in the European version of the Repair Manual (RM3211E). This covers only the ZVW50 (Ni-MH) model, not the ZVW51 (Li-Ion), by the way.
    • Subscribe to Toyota Service Information & Repair Manuals (Australia) (from AUD$16.50 for one day, plus your card issuer’s foreign transaction fee, if any). I’m insufficiently Antipodean to have tried this one, but they say they have a Prius 50 Service & Repair Manual.
    • Buy the 電子技術マニュアル (Electronic Technical Manual) disc, SC3221J, from a dealer or parts distributor in Japan. It covers the Prius models sold there, and it’s is in Japanese, of course.
(More obscure sources like FAINES or GSIC are left as exercises for the reader.)

Someone here did a 2016 transaxle fluid change, IIRC.

Hey, don't be mean! @Elektroingenieur is unable to publish extracts from a copyrighted document, so the best he can offer is the reference and means to obtain it.

First: nobody is being mean. Look at the request: "Anyone have pics / instructions...?" His response was non responsive to the request, and thus, useless.

Second: whether he can republish a copyrighted work is a complex question to be best determined by an IP attorney. Copyright includes a doctrine known as Fair Use, which includes various determinative factors. It is certainly reasonable that a non-commercial republication of 3 pages out of 20,000 may qualify as Fair Use.

True, but I don't see how the negative comments helped the OP in any way and certainly did not provide answers and that was my point.

    *sigh* delete.
I posted & it did not show.
I went to another thread & it was still not showing & the posting was still in the message box.
I replied again and both messages show.

There is a pic in the link I posted. The following post gives a little more clarification.
Earlier in that thread, they discussed wrench size.

What more information do you need??

I'm betting fill and drain bolts are socket head cap screw requiring a 10mm (male) "socket (Stanley for one sells a set), and torque is 29 ft/lb for both.

That's cribbed from third gen, so not sure tho.

Many thanks for the link. I did perform a search when I first posted this thread, and have been watching this forum for any discussion of tranxaxle fill. It is clear that I have not been watching as carefully as I thought (or that if I've seen it, my memory has once again failed me).

I do not need any more information. That link is perfect!

I just turned 40k and did my oil change. Now I can do my transaxle with some confidence. (If I recall correctly, I believe that on the GEN III, an inverter coolant drain plug was located in the vicinity of the transaxle - and I didn't want to make the mistake of puling the wrong plug).

    Many thanks! Fully appreciated! :)

Fourth Gen transaxle case shape is different than 3rd.

I seriously wish Toyota would provide basic maintenance instructions in OM, but that's never going to happen. And they refuse to acknowledge any benefit, exclude it from the schedule.

Just be sure to have the car level when filling, and fill till it comes back out.

Even that's cribbing from third gen.

Thanks! I'd done my 3rd Gen a few times. I recall the importance of level. I'd usually made a mess, both draining and replacing the fluid, but that's because my mechanic skills aren't particularly finely honed... ;-) (and working in cramped spaces under jack stands just isn't one of my talents...

Debating whether to do this at all since I ditch mine at 100-125K. No one cares when they buy the car or trade it. Had new tires on a recent trade and the dealer did not care. He never test drove it. Just walked around it and gave me a price.
