Discrepancies between the app and the car

Hi. I apologize if this has been discussed previously.

I have been noticing at least two numerical discrepancies between what my app is telling me and what the car is showing.

    1) The EV range just after charging is complete is generally higher by a mile or two on the app (in "charge management" section) compared to what my car shows on HUD. For example the app told me I have 32 miles, but the car said 30.2 miles this morning. I know that the range is calculated based on how I drove the car previously, but still I would think that the app and the car should be using the same conversion factor (but apparently not??).

    2) I don't know how the car calculates "average MPG" displayed on the dash vs. how the app calculates "fuel consumption" in the "summary" section of the ECO Dashboard. In my case, MPG is about 10 miles higher on the dash compared to the app.

Does anyone know exactly what is going on here?

Is the climate control system on when you start the car? If so,turn it off and the range should increase.

Don't think that explains this discrepancy.

The app tells me, at the conclusion of charging, that I have 32 miles of EV range. Then I get into my car, turn the car on, even before I turn the AC on, the HUD display shows 30.2 miles of EV range. How does the car "know" that I might be turning the AC on later in the trip?

If you look at Drive Monitor 2, it shows two Ev ranges, one with the AC operating, one without. The HUD shows one range - the one applicable to the current situation. If you do as I do and leave the AC on essentially all the time, you always get the lower one. I suspect the app shows you the higher one, but I don't know that for sure.

I am also seeing a discrepancy. The Untune App indicates 30, car indicates 28.6. (With AC and heat turned off at start up.)

With the warmer weather Entune is now reporting I have 32 miles of EV range, although (even with AC turned off at startup), my Prime typically shows about 29.8. I guess this is normal?

My eco score is stuck at 85. Regardless if I run without ac. I’m careful to start slowly after a stop t a red light or stop sign and try to keep my miles per hour steady . My car is 2 months old. Will this get better with time or am I doing something wrong?

Sorry. This is an older topic but I'm trying to understand if there's a problem. Spouse drives the 2017 Prius Prime Advanced 99% of the time so I haven't been able to observe a trend. e.g. recently, OAT is say 60 F. Fully charged the Entune App will report 27 miles of range.

The HUD will report typically 4.5 miles less range ~ 22.5 miles at the same time.

I've read the above, but I'm still unclear if the difference is normal at 4.5 miles less for the HUD versus the Entune App report?

FWIW, the car has ODO ~ 20,000 miles. Been mostly driven on the EV locally over the last 3 years.

    Thanks in advance

I haven’t seen 4.5 mile difference, but have seen about a 2 mile difference. I think the app reports the total possible mileage, but the HUD (and other readouts) take your heater setting into consideration. Fewer miles if you run the heater, turn off the AC and the readouts jump up a couple of miles.

As commented, HUD (and on dash) number is either with or without climate depending on you have it ON or OFF. If you turn off the climate, EV estimated rage will instantly goes up. App number is always without Climate, I think. Another place you can check is in the Drive Monitor 2 as shown in the pic. The middle row is EV range without climate, the bottom row is with climate. Depending on the ambient temperature and how the climate control is set this difference can be larger, but it is typically 2-3 miles. 4.5 miles is bit larger than usual, but I have seen on mine as large as 3.8 miles.

Got It. Almost feel silly now. With simply the fan not off, I got this discrepancy. OFF? The App and HUD are in agreement.

I'll issue a warm thank you to Salamander_King too
    Thanks

Issue solved with your help. Hard to believe the fan on (not off) generated the difference.
    Thanks all.
