05 Prius, 225k miles with check engine light on for P0420. Brake light on also due to a leaking rear brake cylinder.

I'm new to this prius world but from reading it appears my Prius never runs solely on battery even under 42mph. It will run in ICE immediately after 2-4 mpg unless I'm in a parking lot scenario. My trip data says I'm averaging 37mpg but from my fuel fill test I'm getting 41mpg. Was wondering if this is all normal? Thanks

probably normal for a car with 225,000 miles. your battery is likely weak, and the computers are protecting it from going south altogether. might be a good time to start using a prolong charger.

That may be the case but I just bought this one and some of the cells were replaced previously. I did forget to mention I can never get to the green battery status so your probably still correct.

yes, a rebuilt battery, while 'new to you', is still full of old cells. i might be wrong, it's just a thought based on common sense, not a proven fact.
have you cleaned the battery cooling fan and intake grille?

Yes the fan and intake were cleaned to a shine and sparkle. Going to get the torque pro app to check the cells.

Update! I took the Prius for an 8 mile local ride down some pretty flat and downward sloping roads and I was able to achieve all electric mode under 42mph. I even saw my first green bar in the information center.
