Yes, I agree with this. I have a very young friend (he is either 20 or almost 20) that loves EVs and wants a tesla, but knows he may never be able to afford one or not until model 3s become really common. So he is also interested in the prime, but probably won't get one because he just got married and they don't have much money. I've been married now for 9 years and still wouldn't say I can afford a new prime just for me to drive to work, even though the value on them is quite good for a new car. I got my gen 3 used for around $13K after trade in. Maybe some day...

    On a scale of 1 to 1000 with 1000 being high in the area of being tech/engineering ... I am a 1.

I'm a software engineer (BA computer Science, BA Business Administration). Prior to that I worked as a thin films tech for a laser optical manufacturer. I have a friend that wants one. She currently has a Prius C. She's a lawyer.

I am a Registered Nurse. I have been just learning about the technical operation of the Prius Prime through reading.

The term "engineer" has been dragged through centuries, to be virtually ubiquitous now. Originally was a label for someone who tended and maintained engines, initially steam engines, on trains, and pumping stuff out of mines?

Just an ordinary civil servant here. Driven 1st Gen Prius at work before but wasn't impressed. Fast forward to earlier this year when wife totalled her CUV after only owning it for 9 months.
Did some math and with the amount of driving she does getting a plug in made sense.
Then one of my co-workers traded in his Civic hybrid and got the Prime. The look was different then I saw his mpg. 100+mpg! I'm in!
So 1800 miles & 6 mths later I'm very happy. I've filled up twice and my tank is full right now. I wish my 5.9L truck could get a fraction of that mileage! Lol

    Nexus 6P ?

Someone once told me when I was young that I probably won't get rich being an engineer, but I should have a pretty good life. Now, thirty years later, I would agree with that based on my experience. :)

I work in clinical trial research as a biostatistician. I know a lot more about AIDS and Ebola than PHEVs. But I'm learning! My EE friend told me I have to be sure to say kilowatt HOURS when I talk about charging so it sounds like I know what I'm talking about.

Yes. I do like to make choo choo noises in my windowless basement office while configuring BGP.

It's kind of like when you have to tell people you are a doctor, but not the kind that helps people.. :)

Another engineer here - I work for an aerospace company in the California Bay Area. When I was younger I was more interested in horsepower and displacement than efficiency and technology, but as one ages some priorities start to shift...I bought the Prius Gen 1 & 2 for the yellow HOV sticker and then the Plug-in for the green HOV sticker, but I also appreciate the technical design of the vehicle and the goal of moving away from dinosaur juice as quickly as possible. One of my favorite aspects of this forum is the diversity of the users: former mechanics, cab drivers, engineers, cheapskates, tech-nerds, families, retirees, etc. Most microcosms on the internet seem to skew in a certain demographic direction but this site seems much more egalitarian and the overall knowledge level the users bring with them is awesome. I learn something about cars or the world almost every time I visit.

Degree in Mechanical Engineering, but have done software my whole career.

Worked in Detroit for a GM subsidiary for 10 years, on assembly plant systems and then OBD2 testing software. Then to Seattle for several years for cellular phone companies. Then for a company that made firmware testing systems that was acquired by Motorola.

After that, I spent 4 years leading the team that did the functional testing on the Ford Sync infotainment system. Currently working on diagnostic software for semi trucks.

And I love math and physics...

Then there's the career Mechanic that just likes extremely reliable, low TCO daily drivers.

Degrees in psychology and in electronics engineering and design. Spent 10 years as a mechanic maintaining high speed can making equipment. Then 7 years as an industrial electrician in the same business. Then supervised the electricians and millwrights for 4 more years. Currently ay 19 years and counting as a missionary doing a combination of radio engineering, IT, writing, and public speaking.

A bit of an efficiency freak. When I sit at traffic lights and hear the engines idling around me, I roll my eyes and wonder why anyone would waste their money on such primitive vehicles.

And diagnose which ones have a loose belt, a valve problem, fouled plug(s), piston knock, failing piston ring, extremely poor taste in music, e.t.c.

I'm a product development chemist, and I've been working (off and on, slowly) on a chemical engineering degree for about the last 10 years or so.

A Prime will be my next Prius, but I'm waiting for a used one.
