    Hello all,

In 2002, I purchased a 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid, and I loved that car. I drove it for 10 years. When I decided to get a new car, I was talked into buying a Dodge Dart. A few months after I bought it, I was renting a car and was given a Prius, and I loved it. I really regretted buying the Dart! Last year, in October, my farther passed away. I waffled about using my small inheritance to buy a new car, or just pay off my Dart and live payment free for a while, ultimately deciding to pay off the Dart. I had read about the head's up display and learned it was only on the Prius 4, so, I began dreaming of a Prius 4. In June 2017 we had a horrible hail storm here (softball sized hail stones!) and my Dart got totaled. I decided this was the sign I needed to get a new car. Then, while researching the Prius 4, I learned of the Prius Prime, and instantly, my heart was set on it. The dealership put in the order, and I waited from mid June until August 10th to learn that my order had been filled and the car was on the way! I got back from vacation on September 15th and on September 16th I picked up my beautiful Prius Prime Advanced. I am in love with this car. I drive 14 miles round trip work and back, so, even with an errand or two on the way home, I don't ever need to move out of EV mode. I've been assured I am the first and only Prime owner in Wyoming, so, that's fun. Looking forward to learning from some of you more experienced owners how to make the most out of this fantastic car!

Congrats Amy. Smart choice. I just drove through Wy on I90 and was watching for any sightings of a Prime. Did not see any but the surroundings were beautiful.

Son lives in Jackson and I am planning on buying new Advance and driving from Dallas to Jackson. Maybe I can convince my son to add the second Prius Prime in Wyoming.

That would be awesome - we could start a small club! (Although Jackson is about as far from Cheyenne as you can get and stay in Wyoming!).

Yes - that is the one thing I would change in the car - I wish it would tilt to the driver just a bit, or be on a bit of a swivel to tilt when the sun is causing glare.

Looking at buying new Advance. Noticed a little glare on 11inch monitor on my test drive at dealer. Have you had any issue with this?

Wonder if piece of window film could cover the monitor and solve that issue? Maybe someone will chime in with an answer.

I do wish I'd come on here and found out I could get the car much cheaper in other locations. With taxes, add ons, and protection package, my loan is about $40k. I'll have to wait until I am home to see what the car pricing was by itself, but, they quoted me $35129 originally.

  10. Primes have been out for almost a year, so my bet is that you'll eventually spot another in the state capital that they haven't told you about. :)
Seriously though the only thing that you won't like about the Advanced is the monthly payment - but this thing has such absolutely sweet bells and whistles to it. Oh and you can set the climate thing from your phone as well, just get Safetyconnect working (free for 3 years) and then get the Entune App.

Welcome Amy! Your commute is exactly like mine. And while I'm not the only Prime owner. Minnesota, I've never seen one in the wild. We're rare birds.

[got this answer from another owner in California.

QUOTE="HPrimeAdvanced, post: 2611415, member: 152490"]I've had no problems with glare on the 11" display, even heading east recently in late afternoon. My biggest problem with visibility is the occasional accumulation of lint and dust, which I wipe off by a light couple of sweeps using a clean cloth. Remember my medium window tint on all windows and rear windshield makes a big difference to me with reducing glare.[/QUOTE]
    Helpful thanks.

This picture of me with my Prime was taken back in May by my sister-in-law, just outside of Gillette...

If you consider monthly gas money savings and less pollution, the monthly car payment may become less painful. Or, at least this is what I tell myself.

Congrats, Amy. This car is a whole different animal from the Dart, or even the Civic Hybrid. Hope you love it as much as I have enjoyed each Prius I've owned. A shame they didn't price it like they do here in New England, though to get the price I did, I spent quite a bit of time chasing quotes from a couple dozen dealers, and figuring out what was included/excluded/hidden in their pricing. Maybe I'm a sicko, but to me, torturing dealers and their sales employees by making them work for my business, in the name of getting the best deal possible, is fun....and I only buy new cars every so often, so I enjoy it while I can!

As for advice........I'm having a hard time following my own advice these days, much less expecting others to....but here are a few things to consider.

    1. Enjoy! It's an amazing car. Arguably THE best car containing a gasoline engine, ever built. I know that some Ferrari owners would disagree, but both have their strengths and weaknesses, being designed for different purposes. Ferrari owners and we, each have good reasons to be equally passionate about our cars. I honestly would not trade it for ANY other car ever made, past or present, if I could only have/drive/use that one vehicle for the next 10 years.

    2. Never be afraid to drive it however makes you happiest, even if others think you should drive it their way, differently, or not at all.

    3. Read the entire Owner's Manual, and write yourself a list of things from it which either surprise you, or will be useful to you. Ugh, it's huge, I haven't even finished a good fraction of it yet myself, but I'm only 16 days into owning the Prime. I'm making notes on what is different from what my own assumptions would have been, because I've been known to make plenty of assumptions when later figuring things out.

    4. WY terrain advice: Don't start down from the top of one of your big mountains out there, with a full battery. Use enough battery on the way up (or by not charging fully if you charge near the top) to take a free charge from the descent, instead of reaching a point where the friction brakes come into use and create wear/tear/inefficiency. NOTE: If it's really icy and really steep, the friction brakes work on all 4 wheels, while the charging ("regenerative braking") only works on 2 wheels. It's possible to get into situations where 2 wheels on ice simply don't exert enough braking force to keep the car from accelerating down the hill under regenerative braking. Safety first: brake hard enough to activate the ABS if needed to prevent acceleration or skidding on ice. I'm hoping it says this in the manual, but I haven't gotten there yet! Maybe they have computers figure it all out and apply the right kind of braking and right kind of stability control regardless of what you do. I hope so, but I would also keep in the back of my mind that the surest way to know the friction brakes are being used, is to brake hard enough to activate the ABS light/noise.

    5. Get a great set of winter tires. I love the Michelin X-Ice3, since putting them on my 2005 Prius. They are inexpensive enough, quiet enough, wear long enough, and handle great even in summer, that I don't even bother switching back and forth to "summer tires" myself, despite having bought an extra set of (2005) wheels intending to do exactly that..

I drove from MA to WY and back in August (for the eclipse) and didn't see a Prime the whole way. It was before I bought mine, so I was driving my 2005 Prius loaded with hiking, camping, and photo/optical equipment.

About as far, but not quite! I watched the eclipse in national wilderness near Grand Targhee ski resort in Alta, WY. To get there, I went through Jackson, over Teton pass, into Idaho, then back into WY.

    Quite the shirt, dude!

But seriously, I have to thank you for your many extremely well-considered and well-written contributions to PriusChat over the years.
There are very few people whose opinions/solutions I automatically consider with equal or greater weight than my own. Maybe only you and Patrick. Some others (Wilson, etc) also get automatic respect and a "likely both useful and correct" assumption from me, but I treat them as more of a detail/factor/opinion to weigh, while you and Patrick very often get viewed as examples to follow, on any topic you've thought about much or figured something out about. I'm very happy to see you have a Prime, knowing that it will save me from having to do as much work/thinking myself!.
