Front Splash Panel

    Hey Everybody,
    The panel that attaches to the front bumper is partially pulled off. I have glued the panel onto the bumper several times and it lasts for awhile
    I've been told it can simply be pulled off, that it is not all that important.
    There is not much of the panel to glue.
    Your thoughts?

    if it's right in front of the radiator, it might help prevent rocks from bouncing up and causing a huge expense.

    Do it right? Gluing it, sounds like you're missing some or most of the fasteners. Get on a Toyota parts retailer site, see what's involved, get the proper fasteners, decide what can be refurb'd, or has to be replaced.

    Hmmm. Yes the panel goes from drivrt's side to passenger's side, so probably protects he radiator.
    I'll not try to repair this again myself. Although I am so tempted - just the competitve nature in me.

    It's held on by a mix of:

    1. 4~5 bolts into tackwelded nuts in the frame.
    2. 4~5 screws into nylon inserts in the bumper.
    1. One plastic push-in style anchor, at centre.

    It's those semi-circular pockets at the back that snag and abraid:

    Fiberglass mesh and two-part epoxy applied:

    If it's too far gone, I'd go for that linked replacement part, very reasonable price compared to up here. You'll like need to get some replacement screws, the nylon inserts, and/or the plastic push-in fastener. The bolts are probably in place, if they haven't rattled off: it's more likely the plastic tore free.

    You can do an assessment without even raising the car, but rolling it onto ramps or using a floor jack and safety stands will make it much easier.

    Years ago when mine broke off it happened to drop and drag on the ground for the final time about 5 mins. from my Toyota dealer. I drove into the quick lube since I was late for work. The mechanic says this cheap, some swear words, plastic thing is worthless. He cut it off and threw it in the garbage and I was on my way LOL.

    Trouble with that: the underpanels are lapped, kind of like shingles: each one sort of shelters the one aft. Pull off that front piece, and the main engine underpanel is more vulnerable, and the engine bay is partially open, cools faster, and so on. But hey, just drag it some more, pull into quick lube, more swear words, pronounce that one worthless too, lol.

    Drill holes, zip tie or fix with Duramix. Auto body shops use this to fix bumper tears and cracks. Area has to be sanded and cleaned and prepped with an adhesion promoter. If you cut any corners on prep the product will not sick properly.
