My symptom is the backlight of the screen doesn't work, with a flashlight I can see all the screen functions OK. Does the backlight circuit/power come from the screen or the radio????? Thanks

Did you find an answer? My screen has gone dark. The touch works and I can see the screen faintly with a flashlight as well. Will replacing the screen fix the problem? Or is something's else the issue?

If the screen has gone dark but responds to touches, it would seem the LCD display board is the culprit. The touchscreen is a separate item that sits on top of the LCD display board. The LCD display board is available from sellers on eBay and aliexpress. You could easily reuse your existing touchscreen with a new LCD display board. This thread may help you:

Hey everyone, just wanted to give an update. I was indeed able to replace the digitizer without removing the entire radio unit. I achieved this by keeping the screen in load position and removing the two screws on the bracket then wiggling the entire unit out. Only one ribbon cable needed to be removed to detach the screen from the radio.

I wasn't able to take too many photos but here's a few:

So, I replaced my screen and LCD and it is still dark. I can see the screen if there is a light shining on it. Everything functions, but the screen is not lighting. Bummer! Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

Sorry for digging up an old post.
Anyone has a suggestion on how to force "open/slide out" the screen (and expose the cd and dvd slot)?

Let me explain why I want to do that.
I can press the "close" physical button to show the screen, where I can see the "load" button on the screen... BUT the touchscreen no longer works so I can't press on it.

I am trying to see if I can replace the touch screen like how Illuminus did.

    Thanks a lot.

Not sure if you figured it out already but you just hold down the close button for like 5 seconds and it will open and eject all your discs as well.

Certain functions work on my touch screen, such as pinpointing something on the nav map. However, in other in other modes, nothing, such as trying to connect my phone via Bluetooth. Before I order a new touch screen, I want to make sure that the problem really is the screen. Can anyone confirm that these symptoms indicate a bad touch screen. or could the problem be deeper?

Thanks to OP for posting this information. I ordered the replacement touch panel for my 2011 Prius radio and installed but I still have the same problem where no touch commands work. Hopefully someone has experienced a similar issue and can provide some insight. Should I replace the circuit board? I double checked all connections and have run out of options. I did notice the touch panel was a bit different than the one I pulled out but the ribbon cable was identical. Thanks for any help and sorry to post on an old thread.

I'm not sure what you mean by the "digitizer." Were you trying to replace the touch screen? If so, your solution looks a lot easier than some of the other approaches to getting at the screen and ribbon cable.

UPDATE: Got it working after I ordered another touch screen from a US vendor. Beware of ebay screens from china. I was able to get a refund but it sucked working with a defective screen. Screen below did NOT work in my 2011 Prius JBL E7022 unit.

Do you have a link to the USA seller that you used? I really need to fix my navigation!

I also ordered a touch screen from China as recommended here. It took almost 2 months to arrive, and then was smashed on arrival due to poor packing. After arguing with the seller for a couple weeks, he finally sent a replacement. After another months long wait, it arrived in the same poor packaging not broken, but was clearly USED! I tried to install it anyway, and it didn't work, so it was either defective or incompatible. The seller refused to refund, and the long wait made getting my money back from eBay impossible. What a joke!

Thanks so much to everyone for this information! I just upgraded from an '05 Prius with 123k miles to a '10 with 34k miles. The screen is unresponsive, and I thought I was going to either have to pay $3k for a new stock system or $1k for an aftermarket system. I'm going to try this $80 fix first.

Here's my question: Does anyone have instructions (or a link to them) on how to replace the digitizer by leaving the screen in the load position, the way Illuminus did? I have little electronics experience and don't want to screw anything up.

Thanks again to the OP, Illuminus, and Trip Kirby for all the great info!

I followed your advice to remove the two screws on the brackets, and the screen unit slide out. Thanks for suggesting it. I've replaced the touch screen but am having a problem re-inserting the ribbon cable into the ZIF connector on the board in the head unit. How did you open the ZIF connector? Did you use a spudger on the side facing you, or how did you flip it open? Thanks.

How to Replace a Defective Touchscreen (Digitizer) on a 2010 (Gen 3) Toyota Prius | PriusChat

Not sure if this was what you were asking or not, but step 4 in the link above shows the locking mechanism in the ZIF connector. You need to slide the lock out, unplug the ribbon, plug the new ribbon in, and then slide the lock back in.
