Wow! Then that's one salesman who should never be in contact with customers ever again. They DO profit from that feature, as if they don't know what the heck it does, they'll lose a percentage of prospective sales when it comes up. Almost every Toyota for many years has come with Safety Connect. There shouldn't be a mystery here. And it is in all the car brochures, explained in detail. No excuse. Gads, my 2010 Prius had SC as an option in the technology package.

The sad fact of the matter is that Toyota doesn't insist that dealers train their sales staff. This is beyond an oversight in management at the corporate and dealer level. No one has to wonder why the competition (example: TESLA) is so incredibly successful. Training is everything when it comes to sales staff, no matter what one is selling, and getting the customer back again to buy another vehicle. And their friends.

My sales person for my Prime knew nothing about the car. She even told me that the traffic warnings and road use levels would still be there when my SiriusXM went away because it came in on digital FM. Wrong. The weather data still works, when it wants to, because that DOES come in from digital FM. She has been working there for ten years. Never bothered to work up any knowledge of the Prime she sold me in the 4.5 months it was on order. And everyone else there knew much less, insisting it was an unobtainable car in Chicago, despite the fact that I was driving one bought there.

I doubt that Toyota will get much of my future business; or at least that dealership won't. And they were the best in Chicago, believe it or not.

Sounds like it's time to put in a "good" word for that lousy dealership. If enough people complain about a dealer, Toyota will take serious action. Back in the late '80's when I worked for a Toyota/Jaguar/Maserati dealer, dealers could lose vehicle allocations if their CSI (Customer Satisfaction Index) fell too low. Our Torrance dealership would regularly review our ratings with the sales staff to improve ratings and get more cars! We also had product information training on a regular basis

She is correct. Traffic comes from HD radio. Mine works every day and I don't have Sirius.

Your sales person IS correct. Entune traffic comes from HD radio. It's even in your NAV settings to get traffic from HD Radio, your phone, or both. It's been this way on Entune since 2014. The other Entune apps get their data via your cell phone data plan. That's why they don't have data if your phone is not connected. SAT radio (Sirius) stands alone. Nothing else besides itself, uses it.

Are car sales people clueless about what they sell, you bet they are, but they occasionally do get some things right.

But before 2014, the Traffic info did come over XM data. That's how my 2012 PiP worked. :( When the complimentary subscription expired, I had to sign up for XM data Traffic. That is one of the first thing I cancelled when I got my Prime.

My traffic info dropped the very minute the SiriusXM went away. My wife's car did the same one week earlier. How can that be?

I don't know. Check your HD Radio settings in your NAV manual see the settings download method section below in the upper right hand corner of the graphic. Make sure it's set to use both HD Radio and Mobile.

Sounds like there may have been a transition from an XM based system to a HD radio based system at some point. Both by 2015 Highlander and 2017 Prime receive traffic info just fine and neither have XM. On the highlander I even accepted their 6 months for $20 offer and had XM for a while. No impact to traffic info when it stopped.

The "good" word needs to go to Toyota directly. After I looked at the Prius locally, I got a followup call from the dealer. I severely downrated the salesman & their (lack of) knowledge but I doubt very much that feedback ever left the dealership or impacted the salesman.

Before that meeting i was not aware the Prius Trim Two was only available with a black interior when Toyota sales information showed all 3 interior colors. My Tan interior Trim Two does not exist, apparently.

A dealership can be good with crappy sales people too. My last experience at my preferred dealer was much better with my Gen 1 Prius owning salesman.
