Any one else getting more than 30 per charge?

    During summer GOM was 40 ~42, actual range was 36~38. Now, ambient temp in AM in 50's, GOM is 37~38, actual range is 34~37. Our driving is mostly 36-38 miles daily in relatively flat Central Valley of CA, often congested section of HW99 at speed <60mph. Prime loves to be driven slow though others have noted excellent drive at high speed.

    On mine, the "guess" was always between 26 and 30, and actual range was always between 28 and 36.

    Thanks for the info. Possibly the GOM works a little differently between the Prime and Fiat 500e.

    Here are two examples of my GOM strangeness.

    Leave home in the morning for the 7.7 mile commute. I arrive at my destination with the GOM showing 10-12 miles less. (No cabin heater). I’m guessing the battery heater tricks the GOM into thinking the car is going to “burn electricity” for battery heating the entire trip.

    On the return trip, if the car had set for just a short time (battery still warm), the GOM would be more accurate. Occasionally the GOM would show less of a drop than the true miles driven.

    O’well, that’s what makes all this fun!

    I had a chance to do some small city* driving today and used less than a full charge for my r/t.
    18 miles, 45% of battery used so this works out to 40 miles EV per full battery

    Pretty nice, and compliments to the Prime for not being bothered by hilly terrain.

    *Big city for me, but the drivers are not aggressive like those found e.g. in Boston or NYC and the traffic is mostly light enough to time the majority of traffic lights.

    Purchased the Prius Prime August 3, 2017. First few times charging Sacramento area, the car would charge to 27 miles. Now It will not go over 22.9. Something wrong with the charging system???

    EV range is a reflection of your driving behavior, incl AC use, outside temp etc for the most part ... there are some people here who get high ranges (incl me) that have favorable commutes or just drive to maximize EV use, others drive it like a norm al car ... without you telling us about your driving style it is not really possible to answer your question

    The reading you see is an ESTIMATE of what the car calculates you'll get based on your driving style. Things that will hurt that number are: quick take-offs from stop, A/C, driving at higher speeds (65-80mph+), ambient temperatures very low or very high, hills (these really hurt!), lots of stop and go. Things that help get a bigger number: smooth, gradual take-offs; no A/C; keeping speeds in mid 40's as much as possible (don't be a road hog!); easing up hills where safe, while coasting down hills, where safe; on surface streets or in heavy traffic, ANTICIPATING and preventing unnecessary stops by looking well ahead for openings and signal light color. Remember, it will take a while for your new driving style to affect the estimate.
    As far as ambient temperature, hope they'll put a geodesic dome on California and air condition the whole state!!

    Question for those of you in the 30+ club.

    How many charges after you first got the Prime did it take before you started seeing the electric range registering in excess of 30?

    I ask because since driving off the lot I've now charged twice after driving what I'm fairly certain was over 30 miles in electric mode prior to each charge. First charge put me at 25.9. This last one got me to 26.9. Perhaps the system wants to see several data points before offering an average? Curious how this works. Thanks!

    I think mine was over 30 after about 150-200 miles of EV driving. With the traffic/speeds in my town and driving fairly efficiently, mine has settled around 32.

    I posted a while ago I was getting over 30 miles in EV range... but I had just bought the car in the summer... Now that cold weather is moving in.and I'm using heat.. the range is much less... it estimates about 23 and I get less than that. So it's very dependent on the route, and temperature/climate control.

    Climate settings are a good point to bring up. Even though the Prime is very efficient with climate control, it's a big hit on the traction battery. On what I'd call a moderately hot (86F) and cold (40F) day, my A/C load ratio in both circumstances was 19% and my mi/kWh was 4.2. Therefore, without climate control on I would have gotten 5.2 mi/kWh apparently. Those correspond to ranges of 28 and 34.5 miles respectively (for me). That's a loss of about 6.5 miles of range due to those climate settings if running the battery from full to empty!

    Route is also a big factor... if there are two routes between point A and B, and one route is more hilly than the other.. that route gets worse EV range. My work is a couple hundred feet higher in elevation than my home... so it is net downhill.. but one route has big hills to climb, the other doesn't. and it makes the difference between running out of miles on the way home or having some left over.

    I was getting a median of 40 miles range in nice weather with my EV-friendly commute. Now, with daytime temps in the 30s I’m down to about 36. I do have the advantage of parking in my condo garage overnight where the temps don’t fall below the 50s, but The little darling will be suffering outside during the day when winter really sets in.

    My 40 miles/charge has fallen to about 34 in the colder weather. :(

  18. Going down, yesterday read 36.9, but with it getting below freezing and wanting to keep my car warm for the trip, in practice I'm getting only 23-30 miles. That's also with Hak R2 winter tires and I keep their psi low 40s at these temps. Winter is coming.
