I did a search and didn’t see anything related to this. I’ve noticed the last few weeks my EV range has gone down from almost 35 miles to just over 30 miles. This might be normal for it being cold out. I don’t really ever use the ac/heat unless to get the defrosters for a minute or two.

I have noticed the same. It was 23 degrees out this morning. Damn cold.

    Give it 6 months.

I thought the Prime's battery heater was more for keeping it above freezing than keeping it at the optimal temperature for charging and discharging.

pg. 126) traction battery heater: when the outside temperature is low, and the charging cable is connected to the vehicle, this function automatically warms the hybrid battery ( traction battery ) until it reaches or exceeds a certain temperature.

    only took me 32 minutes.

    What's heating the battery?

These ranges are just estimated from the Ev mode efficiencies calculated by the car (5.7 * miles/kWh):

the act of charging the traction battery is supplying the heat.

But, what if the battery's already charged? I'm thinking the car heats the interior, then the battery fan takes the heated interior air and blows it over the battery.

this is the great part of a new vehicle, no one knows anything, and toyota won't disclose any more than is in the manual.

Even if it's fully charged. I have taken a measurement with my data logger and noticed when the traction battery heater was activated I saw the same wattage draw. Prime charging status 2-9-2017.JPG

  20. So, on cold mornings such as this (24F), I preheated my car using battery, and also had the warm air blowing in the car, which is another penalty to electric driving range. In practice I can get around 23 miles with a full charge in these conditions.
