When I ordered my caps from HubcapMike I used the phone and Mike answered. Wow. He took my order on a Monday and shipped them to me the same day. On Friday I got them and they looked great. Then I had a little problem with my order. I ordered four caps and three were a slight bit too small to cover my wheels. The fourth was just right. So I sent Mike and email and told him about this. He called me on the phone and explained that he gets that cap from two different suppliers. It was just a packing problem. He said he could charge my card for three more and credit it back when he gets the smaller three returned to him and he would take care of the shipping.

I think it is great that he called me right away to fix the problem. I wish he did not have to charge me for the other three but that would be quicker then waiting for me to send these back to him before he could send me new ones. I understand.

Service has been great so far. I'll let you know how it turns out. I would recommend him if you want those lightweight smooth caps.

    Notes:
    "Wheel covers:
Unfortunately, the coolest looking chrome spoked wheels are really bad aerodynamically. The best wheel cover is a very slightly convex, completely smooth cover that fits flush with the tire. "{Aerodynamic} disks" like the one pictured here from JC Whitney or something similar can be snapped onto most wheels for a quick aero fix."

Yeah Mike is a nice guy. He call me saying my card would not go through. I bought a bunch of stuff that day and my credit card company blocked my card. :( but I guess thats a good thing. Anyway I called him back after talking to the CC company and I got everything worked out. :) I emailed him a pic of my car and he liked it. I would buy from him again if I ever need hubcaps. I thought about getting those Smoothie Wheel Covers he has for that extra bit of bling. I think they would look pretty nice on my car and still provide the arrow dynamics. I just need to get an extra set of trim rings. B)

So you originally posted about the problem on June 21 and on June 29 it's all resolved and you have them mounted? That's a pretty fast resolution!

They look really good. I do like the look but I just can't bring myself to getting a set. I wonder if it would be possible to have them painted to match the car. What would that look like?

Those look GREAT! Kind of makes me want a silver Prius to go with my hubcaps.

I would be interested as to how much brake dust and crude gets behind the caps in say a normal day of driving. Does anyone think this would cause the brakes to heat up to much ???
I love the look and would like to go this route if there are no problems with it !!!!

I take mine off once a month to wash the car and check air pressure. There is very little brake dust but I mostly try to use regen when braking. As for heat I did a little test and they don't get very hot when stopping from 60mph. About 115 degrees in the front and 110 in the rear. If your going down a long steep hill I would take them off.

Around 5 degrees cooler. When I stopped I stopped how I normally do and use as much regen as possible. Friction brakes kicked in when I reached 7mph and thats why they are so cool.

I like the look but have not taken the plunge because you have to take them off to check the air pressure. That might be a pain.

On the '06 with the standard tire pressure monitoring system, wouldn't seem to be as much of a problem as on an older car.

As a recumbent rider, I also agree that it's cool to see a recumbent webpage used for reference in conjunction with a Prius modification.

    B Rad,
I just did my 5k tire rotation and I can tell you from what I found the brakes look like they did in the showroom. I have never seen anything like it. It is amazing how when you coast to lights the brakes don't get worn. I bet I won't have to change the brakes for 200k miles. I would not worry about the dust.

We credited Your credit card Sunday. Thanks Again.

Yes I received great service and I highly recommend Hubcap Mike! :D I've been getting about 2 mpg more since I put them on. You have to understand that most of my driving is 55-70 mph so wind resistance is more at those speeds and as a result I see that improvement. It you are someone who always stays below 40 mph you may not see the same results I do.

hubcapmike.com Look for the “racing hubcaps - 15†- screw on.
No need to mention this post as I won't see any money from it.

I was still a little worried about the heat build up, however now that I have had the car 3 weeks with temps in the 105-115 range and seeing how little the brakes have heated up I think I will give Hub Cap Mike a call. I did want to go to some 16 or 17 inch rims but everything I have found will just have to much of an impact on the MPG.

What size wheels do you have? I am trying to learn about wheels and there affect on FE. I am not understanding how bigger wheels can fit in the same space as the 15"ers that come on the car. The reason I used the 15" screw caps is because I could rivet them to the plastic rings on the wheels. If you bought larger caps I don't know how you would mount them.

Sorry to confuse you. What I meant was that I was going to get larger custom wheels instead of the alum. disks. The reason larger wheels and tires hurt FE is because they usually wiegh more and while a wider width will improve handeling it also hurts FE. everything is a compromise !!!
