Try it again following the directions EXACTLY. I thought I was reading the directions closely and it took me three times to get it right. I was missing the step about pressing PARK.

It worked on my 2007 and 2009 Prii.

Funny, I replaced the 12 volt battery and the beep didn't come back on. However, I just had to replace the rechargeable battery (still in warranty, thank goodness) and the beep was back.

Thank you for posting this! I have been test-driving used Priuses as I look for a new car. I have very sensitive ears, and the backup beep was my major concern about buying a Prius. Yay!

If you have not purchased yet, make dealer customization a part of the sales deal. If you wait until after you purchase, the service department may insist on charging you, or may insist it can't be done. The salesman, however, will agree to anything to make the sale.

You do not mention which Prius you are looking at but here is the customization you can have done on the liftback.

I customized the reverse beep, (I like the seatbelt alert), and I customized the headlights to turn off as I open the doors. (I park at night in a well lit, private garage, so leaving the lights on by mistake is a greater risk than personal safety for me)

Pay the most attention to those items which only have an O in column 3, the dealer has to do those. (or someone with an ODBII Programmer)

    It's also extremely annoying. ;)

We have an Echomaster range finding reverse system installation that beeps when in reverse. We certainly don't need the OEM one beeping as well.

So thankful for all the great info on this website! I just disabled the beep in the parking lot at work this morning. At first I didn't think the beeping would bother me but by the second day of ownership I was extremely annoyed!

Unlike someone above suggested doing, do NOT "take [your] foot off the brake when going from reverse to park". I stupidly followed that instruction while in a Starbucks parking lot trying to do this procedure to disable the Reverse Beep, and my car started going in reverse. Thank goodness no other cars (or curbs or items or people) were behind me!

Since we're seeing a lot of 12v batteries being replaced and a lot of new to the Prius used car buyers who aren't aware you can turn off the beeper I figured I'd bump this thread. The directions in the first post work well. I just replaced my 12v and had to program the beep away again.

For those of you who are new to your 2nd generation Prii, the beeper is just a warning to you that the car is in reverse and is only heard INSIDE the car. It does nothing to alert anyone outside the car that you are backing up

Ok I don’t know if I’m posting in the wrong thread so for give me . I just got a scangauge 2 used it to turn off reverse and seat beast beeps works great . My question is if I plug my gauge into another gen 3 will it automatically be entered into the computer or will I have to re enter the xgague codes ? Let me know what you guys think . Thanks

I did this for a friend's Prius a couple weeks ago, though just for the backup beeper.

Did you leave that particular X-Gauge code programmed in to your ScanGauge? If so, just plug it in to the other car, then cycle through the gauge selection until you bring up that X-gauge (labeled 'RBS' on the list I took from somewhere here on PC). Bingo, it is done.

If it has since been deleted from your ScanGauge (as mine was), then it will need to be re-programmed in.

I have an 08 Touring, and it (both procedures) worked for me.

Worked perfectly on my 2006. Thanks!

Sadly i might be one of the unlucky guys that it seems doesn’t work tried it like 100 times bought also a carista obd2 carista app doesn’t support gen 2 Dr.Prius when i try to turn this off shows the message this feature is not currently supported by your hybrid model any ideas what to do next or where the beeper is i’ll just remove it
