2006 Prius Clock Spring Replacement?

    I've basically had my cruise control turning on and then one day i noticed it wasn't working anymore, however i was told here on the forums that i should try moving the steering wheel and seeing if it changed, and it did, it worked whenever i moved around the steering wheel around. However, everything else on the steering wheel works up until now. Could it be the clock spring? I just wanted to confirm one last time, and wanted to make sure it's this before changing it. Also, does anyone know how to change these? Is there a video out there? Any help appreciated!

    Ebay has the cheap
    2 on back on each side steering wheel behind covers noe air back pops off now and loose the frame around the lower part so you can see the plugs removed steering wheel one bolt. There are videos just google it

    Sounds like a spiral cable. The air button, info and the defrost steering wheel switches failed on my 2009 ( but they would work if I turned the wheel) which was fixed by a new spiral cable. Plenty of Toyota spiral cable videos on YouTube, maybe not Prii's but very similar. Just be sure to disconnect the battery and take your time with the connectors, each one has a particular way to remove and will not be forced.
    You'll find prices from $8 eBay) to over $300 (dealer) for seemingly the same part. I paid 99 for mine off eBay, try to make sure it is described as "Genuine OEM Toyota part" not just compatible or replacement. Also, the genuine parts are made in the Philippines while the copies are made in China. If you do gamble on the $8 choice, order three since they have a high failure rate. They look identical and fit fine but will likely give you an airbag light.
    Not a difficult job if you watch vids and don't rush it. Took me less than an hour. Good luck!

    Yes, its the clockspring.

    You will get what you pay for. Counterfeit parts will fail again, so you will be revisiting the repair repeatedly. There is also the question of safety. Will the counterfeit part be able to blow the steering wheel airbag?

    Unlikley the $99 clockspring is a genuine OEM. Why/How? Lets apply some logic to reality. Toyota is the sole source/provider of Genuine OEM and only sells to Toyota dealers. If the these same Toyota dealers sell the part for full retail of $300+, $220 for a sizeable discount online, why would they sell for $99 on crapBay? $99 is NOT genuine OEM, unless the seller got a hold of stolen Genuine OEM parts.

    If its too good to be true, ..., it is.

    Ultimatley, it is your choice.
