What do you mean - does your phone ring?

 

This is a problem with the Sprint Samsung phones. The A900 does this as well. It is called "phantom ringing," and is prevalent with Bluetooth. The phone will generally do this when it loses, and re-gains, a signal from the network. That would explain why it does this in the same place along your commute.

I'll bet if you look at the handset as you do this, you'll see your signal go way down, and then back up again.

Huh. I've not heard of this. So are you saying the Bluetooth signal between the phone and the hands-free is somehow affecting the signal connection between the phone and the service provider? Odd.

Anyway, to get the phone fixed take it to a corporate sprint store and have them update the software to version ZB03. If you don't have ESRP on your account and they attempt to charge you to do it, remind them that the rules say you charge $15 if you're doing a software CUSTOMIZATION, not upgrade to a known issue.

 

I also have an A920 in a 2005. My phone software is ZB06, and I still have the ghosting issue. Would ZB03 be an upgrade from ZB06? (Counter-intuitive for software numbering)

I often talk to another A920 (they're not using Bluetooth), and they complain of me sounding metallic/digitized. One more issue is that sometimes the car drops the call (radio comes back on), so the conversation has to be continued on the phone (not hands-free). Will the 'upgrade' help that, too?

I tried calling Sprint's Customer Service and they blamed the bluetooth device (i.e.: the car, not the phone)!

Most modern phones with data capabilities, such as the A900 you can update the firmware yourself. I suppose you probably need one of their web plans though, which I do have... Mine has no such problems (so far anyway), but I do have the latest firmware.

And you're right, IF they add the update in the server which sprint did not do. The software wasn't loaded onto the FOTA server so sadly you have to do it at a store.
