I keep an inverter in my Prius. Last winter we used the Prius for power for two plus days. We used wood in the fireplace for heat. After a summer storm we ran fans off the Prius.

I am 99% sure next Prius model will have 120V outlet build-in.

During a power outage, I ran our freezer in the basement, as well as our phone system off an inverter connected to the Prius. Unfortunately, our refrigerator in the kitchen drew too many startup amps and couldn't run off the setup.

See the video for how the inverter was set up.

Congratulations for making such a first-class installation and easy to follow video. There is one detail that I did not catch, do you recommend that the car be running when operating this setup?

Yes, the car should be turned on, otherwise you'll drain the 12v battery. The gas engine will auto cycle on and off to keep the 12v battery happy.

A 1500W 100V AC inverter has been an optional extra with the PIP since the start in Japan - it's fully integrated, providing several outlets inside, as well as an adaptor to get an AC output from the charging port. I have not seen this available in any other markets, though.
