I'd be okay with it when the technology is proven. At the moment, most self-driving tech is still in the middle stages.

I am fine with it, but mostly I trust others in self driving cars more than I trust their driving now.

If we get to a future where the cars are mostly self driving and communicate with each other, I will be very happy.

A future where my self driving car has to deal with the sort of drivers I deal with now scares me somewhat. In that future, I still want to be able to regain control.

i would with a pilot at the ready, not totally autonomous until it's ubiquitous.

I will withhold judgement until actual samples are readily available to the consumer market.

Survey is rather meaningless w/o knowing the age of the respondents. For instance, my MIL, who no longer drives, would never, ever use cruise control.

Personally, I'm hoping my last vehicle will be at least level 4 or there be level 5 taxis available by then.

Rainy nights in particular, where you can barely decipher the lane lines? If it's bullet-proof, I'd welcome it. And those lead-foot tailgaters will stand out, hopefully get pulled off the roads.

With companies today over promising and under delivering it would take a lot for me to trust them to all of a sudden get this correct for passenger benefit rather than whatever they can get away with to pad their profits.

I believe customer expectations getting ahead of current reality are a large part of the problem.

The companies are not as much over-promising as they are under-restraining some over-exuberant customers.

I think I'd be more comfortable with a driverless car than a driverless bus. In a driverless car - these new Uber Volvos or whatever - I'd be fine, because I'd be on my own or with people I know. In a driverless bus, I'd be stuck with the usual drunks, racists, sex-pests and psychopaths, but without the option of appealing to the driver to throw them off the bus.

I would prefer self-driving over my wife driving ... or two others I could name. One was a former Navy pilot and the other owned a ‘pony car.’

Many drivers would do what they do now. Use their cell phone.

Once it becomes reliably dependable, I will welcome it. Although, I never want to relinquish the opportunity to continue as an operator of a manually driven auto for the occasional "joy drive." I still enjoy the process of operating a motor vehicle, especially a motorcycle.

I absolutely hate being a passenger. I am incredibly prone to motion sickness. If I have to ride as a passenger, I always insist on being in the front seat so I can at least see where I am going. I'm always fine if I'm the driver. That should answer the question.

My personal susceptibility to motion sickness also depends on the driver. For example, a number of those who are not themselves susceptible, drive in a sloppier manner more likely to trigger my motion sickness. Those who habitually use one-handed steering on the highway, making more coarse corrections that demand additional corrections, certainly bother me more than smooth two-handed steerers.

Additionally, some drivers are much smoother on the gas pedal, and rarely or almost never need to touch the brake pedal in free-flowing traffic. Others are constantly adjusting the gas, and needing to hit the brake pedal at least twice per mile.

I'm presuming that self-driving cars can be made as smooth as the smoothest human drivers, helping to reduce passenger motion sickness.

One of my earliest observations is the 'stiction' in our Gen-3 steering was measurably reduced with our Prime.

Given the number of selfish, impatient drivers, and those possibly experienced and educated but simply not paying attention, I'd feel safer with more robots behind the wheel. It seems to work for airplanes, and should soon work for cars. Having a nap or reading a book in traffic would reduce stress, rather than increase it, which is the usual result of driving just about anywhere.
