Lesson to learn, don't throw any car parts away..........I had a 2008 junker that I threw out a year ago, with the transaxle still in the car, couldn't sell it and it was just taking up space.

    Now I bought a 2006 that needs a transaxle.
This car is grey, one of the colors I didn't own in the gen2 configuration. Bought the car without seeing it just so I have something to use my tools on (it gets kinda boring driving a reliable Prius).

Now if I post some pictures, all of you would be really jealous to see what a gem this car really is. Perfect condition and everything works. I just have to keep the driving under 10 mph or the warning lights pop back on......

Since it's not running properly yet, I haven't spent the time to wash the car. It'll just get dirty again without me driving it. So pictures will come after it's fixed and washed

Do we know if the trans fluid had been replaced at some point on this car? Just a curiosity mostly..

I didn't ask, but I would be interested.....just as an extra data point.

The HV battery is original and it also died as the car sat for the past month.

It sounds like a simple problem. Replace faulty warning lights.

If you have some of time in hand to take your Prius a part. some parts are valuable and can fetch good money.

    - Headlights ~200
    - Taillights - ~100
    - DC/DC - ~150
    - Battery - ~200+
    - Driver/Passenger Seats in good condition (Local) - ~100
    - Stereo - ~25
    - MFD - ~75
    - Wheels/Tires - ~150
    - Rear hatch door ???
    - spare tire kit ???

and so on... like good Engine block...

It would be very hard for me to part a car right now, I would end up with the same situation I had last time. Where all the good parts were sold and I couldn't do anything with the left over parts (like a transaxle). And it looks awful in my driveway when it's stripped.

Got it. I had my Prius HV battery replaced by Houston HV Batteries recommended here for about $1100 cash. I almost donated my car due to battery issue but since battery replacement my Prius is running great. I changed suspensions/struts and ride is better now. Now only issue is break (ABS Actuator).

That's always the risks of fixing an older car. Once you put a great deal of money into it, it's hard to let go.

There's an extended warranty on the brake actuator, until Dec. 2017. So I would quickly get it to a dealer

Once the good parts are gone is it hard to salvage it at that point? I guess it would be a problem if the cost of paying someone to haul it off subtracts from whatever money you may have made on parts.

For a business, it's probably ok. The biggest problem is the eye sore stripped car at home. It brings around the wrong people when they see that in your driveway.

I get it now, didn't realize it would be in your driveway while you are parting it I thought you meant afterwards.

Bought a used transaxle and putting it in. Drained the fluid from the failed transaxle and the fluid looks fairly clean (not original). I'm trying to figure out if this stuff is the correct WS fluid

Bisco another struth stated. I think If one lived in a junkyard, a junked car would be totally appropriate.
