Used 2013 Prius IV good deal?

    Hello,

    I have the opportunity to purchase a 2013 Prius IV with 75k miles for $12,000. The car is in very good condition and has a good maitanence record. I've checked the KBB value and it seems like a reasonable deal, however, I'm not sure how accurate the KBB value truly is.

    For the Detroit, MI area, is this a good deal? Or should I keep looking?

    According to you the car is in good shape with good maintenance record. Level Four (no Roman numerals used after 2010) is a good trim level. Mileage is somewhat high for that year but if you don't put extensive mileage on a vehicle it shouldn't be a huge factor. Also check Edmunds and NADA for their pricing and make sure you get manuals and spare key fob. Good luck!

    if you found a good car, and the price is reasonable, i would go for it.
    what does it matter what the experts say the value is? you can only buy what's available.
    if you feel it's too high, make them an offer lower than what you're willing to pay. it's called negotiating.

    If it has the moon roof solar panel option then it's a better deal. For what's it worth, I drive a 2013 model four with 113K with no problems and no oil consumption issues. Good luck with your car search.

    Upon further investigation, I noticed that the Toyota dealership's maintenance records showed that the car had an engine gasket repaired due to oil leaking. The previous owner paid $3,000 for the engine tear down and repair. In addition, this was 1,000 miles before the owner put the vehicle up for sale.

    Seeing this expense on a new vehicle scared me. It was hard to shake the feeling that other gaskets may be faulty in this car as well. Sadly, the pricing of this vehicle was at the top of much budget (I wanted to pay with cash), so I did not do the deal, for better or worse. Still, when comparing this price to others of similar trim, condition, mileage, and year, I still feel as if the price was good and possibly hard to beat based on the vehicles I've seen on the market.

    I always believe it's worth a "few bucks" to have my own trusted mechanic put it on a lift and go over it to make sure a used car is as good as it seems. Most times there are some minor things that should either be corrected or can be used as bargaining chips. At the very least you'll get peace of mind. (y)
