My 2007 Prius ran out of gas after going 430 miles on a tank (Yes, I know I should have filled up sooner).
I put six gallons in the tank and thankfully it started. I promptly went to a gas station and filled it up completely.

The car seems to be working fine, but I see the "Red Triangle" and "Check Engine" light:

Also, in the navigation display, I see a car with a red exclamation point:

Any suggestions? From what I have read it seems that I may need to check error codes and/or reset the computer.

    Thanks!
    Jason

Your hope is the error goes away after a reset. Car probably detecting misfire cylinders

Thanks! That did the trick. In case anyone has the same issue and has not yet disconnected the battery,
it is much easier to disconnect the wire that attaches the negative to the body frame (in the trunk, passenger side).

After the reconnection, the triangle went away - however, the fuel gauge shows empty, when there is a full talk of gas.
I believe it takes some driving or a gas fill up to trigger the fuel gauge re-calibration.

    Thanks again!

Jay- The problem with a Gen2 is if you run out of gas, it let's you take the HV battery too low in charge, and that can be bad for an older HV battery. So we are hoping when you ran out of fuel, you did not completely drain the HV battery

As far as I can tell, the info on the navigation display shows that the battery is charged. Is there anything I can do to check the health of the HV battery?

(BTW, the gas gauge reset itself after driving two miles.)

Not easily...sounds like you might be OK ..if the battery looks regular as far as charge on the MFD screen blue bars etc and does not jump around erratically, maybe you dodged a bullet

WJtracy is right me thinks. You have a bad hybrid battery. Start reading the hundreds of threads about a bad hybrid battery. There spread out all over priuschat.

Buy a mini vci on amazon and you'll be able to check the battery yourself. Dont ask me what a mini vci is use the search forums button up top. You have alot of reading to do.
