    august 4, 2017: vdub exec oliver schmidt pleads guilty to 2 charges: conspiracy to defraud the federal government, and violating the clean air act.
    mr. schmidt faces up to 5 years in prison and a $250,000. fine on the first charge, and 2 years and $250,000. fine on the second.

    The odd part is the government was aware of the cheat since at least 2010.

    I remember arguing with a guy from a college on the emissions cheat discovered at that time.

    It took a while for them to decide to prosecute.
    I still wonder who VW angered that they finally moved.

    i can't find anything on line to that effect. everything points to diesel testing at w.virginia u in 2014, and the epa meeting with vdub in 2015.

    We know the European air quality experts had their hair on fire about the emissions measured in their cities. However, they did not have the specific sources identified until some of the UK researchers figured out how to do road-side metrics. Later, the portable testers confirmed what was going on.

    I believe my argument is logged on a forum,

    I searched my common haunts back then and have zilch,

    maybe I'm off a year, could then question the user once we find who was talking about it
