The whole industry (including truck industry) knows about this problem. It's an even bigger problem with diesels. There's at least one SAE paper studying the EGR coolers clogging up.

Unfortunately, building engines that never blow up is not a requirement for selling a car.

Building cars that last a certain length of time is;).

Making them last longer than that length of time is the challenge and game:).

Figure those flaws out and you’ll be money ahead(y).

Hey, if you're close to the New Hampshire and Vermont border, I'll lend you a hand. Although I'm only qualified to hold a camera to document the process. But I might be able to borrow @Raytheeagle 's "musical chair" EGR valve. It does save a lot of time to just put everything back together immediately instead of waiting to clean your own.

I just got here. No need to ship. I will be heading back and forth a few times before we all get settled here.

    How’s the weather ;)?

We’ll square up when you’re back out on the best coast:).

Hopefully @m.wynn , @WilDavis and @bisco will be taking good care of a west coaster out living in the elements for the first time (y).

@mmmodem, Thanks for your offer! I am planning to do the work over the next two months. Have garage.
You are moving to the right coast?
I live on the Connecticut border, but only 1.5 hours from the NH, VT borders. Our NE states are small.:)

You'll be fine, especially with a garage. Don't rush it. It might be a good idea to remove the engin underpanel at the outset, just so if you drop something you have a decent chance it'll fall right through.

Though, the one thing I dropped, actually completely overlooked it too, was the gasket between EGR cooler and the exhaust manifold. And it didn't go right through: dropped about a foot and hung up something. Finally figured I was missing something at reassemble, looked and found it with a light. Needed a grab-it tool to reach it (another good thing to have).

That gasket should have clips btw, similar to the gasket between the EGR pipe and valve. Besides being easy to drop, it's hard to line it up too, at reassemble.

Don’t let @mmmodem talk his observations down (he’s participated in the complete job;)).

Now the expectation level is higher :).

I’m sure if you give him a nice shelter that is somewhat warm, it’ll help break up the cabin fever and you’ll have another set of hands (y).

Maybe placebo effect but I do feel the same way with head gasket job, clean EGR cooler, and catch can. :)

Also got the bug from Ray and I bought myself a EGR cooler+valve on Ebay for $75. I spend about 3 days with cycling Oxyclean twice a day. Now it's very clean. Maybe someone can use it on next meet. :)

Yes I'm getting the itch to start on the gen3, it's got 103k miles now.

It'll be everything at once, coolant, plugs, egr cleaning, occ, pcv valve, brakes. I would take up all the time at a meet lol

We usually have several working bays;).

We did @Rebound ’s egr and intake circuit at one of the meets:).

    We’d fit you in(y).

Leave the brakes for another time: it's the one outlier.

It's a balmy 40 degrees today. What snow? That's the same temperature as a cold day in the Bay area. No precipitation at all. I literally hiked up a mountain this morning in Monadnock. It was cold up there but no ice or snow.

Shhhhh let @bisco do the heavy lifting. I'm there keep my hands warm. :sneaky:

Since I am planning to do the EGR component removal, cleaning job soon, I decided to check out ebay for used EGR assemblies. What I found is this: an used complete OEM EGR valve and EGR Cooler assembly for $90 (there are two by the same seller). It will need a thorough cleaning. There is a 30 money back guarantee. Is this a good deal? Thanks for your inputs.
