Hi! Thanks to this forum, I read many articles and realized that the combination meter assembly was going out on my 2008 prius. I took the vehicle in to the dealership on Monday, Nov. 27th. The assembly had NOT completely gone out--they were able to get an accurate odometer readying, and the car was then benched until the part came in. Thankfully, I do have a great extended warranty which covers this part.
I live in the Manatee/Sarasota, Florida area. The part is coming from Jacksonville. I realize that this is not a typical part that the dealership has on hand; however, the part has still NOT been received by the dealership!
I truly cannot believe that receiving the part should take this long! Anyone have experience with this?
    Thanks!

They have to get the part reflashed to have the mileage shown on your existing (failed) combination meter. There has always been a long wait for this service.

I've talked to several people who have waited up to a month or more for the dealer to get a replacement meter in. Have also seen hybrid batteries fail while cars were waiting for combo meters. It's not a good idea to park an older Prius for an extended amount of time for any reason.

Hi there--actually, my meter went out and came back on--that is when I took it to the dealer--so they were able to get the correct odometer reading--the part will be in this afternoon! YAAA

Thank you! I am thrilled--the extended warranty is one I actually purchased though my credit union! All works great! No rattles either! LOL

Now, why does Florida NOT get Prime's in their dealerships?

If you read all the threads passim re. Combination Meter Problem, you'll find that I had that exact problem last year, and it took nearly 3 weeks for the part to come in. I was prepared to wait, and bring the car (2009 Gen II) in when the part arrived, but my local dealer wouldn't let me drive the car (no speedo display = safety-isshoo) therefore they loaned me a brand new Camry for the duration, and didn't charge me for the part, labour, or rental! :)

florida is part of southeast toyota. a separate entity with a different deal than the rest of the country.
toyota doesn't tell them what to do, they tell toyota.
