Acura to Roll Out RDX Crossover
    Written by: SPEED Staff
    Harrisburg, N.C. – 7/13/2006

    Acura RDX

Acura announced pricing yesterday for the all-new 2007 RDX 5-passenger luxury SUV. Making its debut at Acura dealerships on August 10, the 2007 RDX will have a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $32,995.

Acura claims the RDX “is poised to bring a new level of driving excitement and enjoyment to consumers seeking sports sedan performance in the growing entry premium SUV segment.â€

Featuring Acura's first-ever turbocharged and intercooled engine coupled with patented Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) the RDX is equipped with a 2.3-liter DOHC 16-valve in-line four-cylinder engine with i-VTEC valve control that produces 240 horsepower.

By adding an innovative variable flow turbocharger, an exceptionally broad powerband with virtually no turbo lag is produced while providing an EPA estimated city/highway fuel economy rating of 19/23 miles per gallon.

Pretty much anything with a flat load floor can get classified as a light truck. The Dodge Magnum is classified as a truck, and it doesn't have much ground clearance. Probably has to at least have a wagon body in its primary form; a hatch probably can't qualify.

Weight is only part of the equation when determining whether a vehicle is a HEAVY truck. Heavy trucks are exempt from CAFE altogether and no MPG estimates are published for them. I think it's 8500 pounds gross (fully loaded) weight.

Oddly, the RDX doesn't get mileage any better than a regular V6 SUV. What's the point of a smaller engine + turbo then?

I don't get that Magnum Wagon. Sat in one at the car show...not comfortable, if you are in the back plan on having no leg room and talk about visibility! Looks like you are looking out the little window of a tank instead of a car. I am a utilitarian in lifestyle...it must be flexible and serve more than one purpose. I even liked the body style of my old Hyundai...the engine was crap but the body was perfect :p

Basically.. you want a mafia car? a hearse (or more body bag space) or something that looks like a rabbit from the rear.

You know the domestics.. They make one car, they're super proud of it, so they make multiple copies to save cost

    Metro/Firefly
    Cavalier/Sunfire
    Cirrus/Stratus/Breeze
    Caravan/Voyager/T&C
    LHS/Concorde
    Blazer/Jimmy
    Yukon/Tahoe/Escalade
    Suburban/Suburban/Escalade EXT

    Venture/Silhouette/Trans Sport (Montana)
    Uplander/Relay/Montana/Terazzan
    Malibu/Cutlass

I know, somebody's gonna say "what about Camry/ES?"

Sure.. except, they don't have identical interiors unlike the list above (for the most part)

You expect me to believe the Prius is running on the Echo/Vitz's chassis? so they've lengthen it to the length of a Corolla and managed to stretch the wheelbase to 106? nice. That's a pretty good chassis.

Engine and suspension's the same. Big deal. Even the Corolla and Sienna run on rear torsion beams (sucks).

Like I said, at least they all don't have identical interiors haha.

In this case, GM took a Suzuki and rebadged it as a GEO Metro (built in Canada BTW) Pontiac Firefly was sold in Mexico and Canada, never in the USA..a reabadged, rebadged Metro

The different knobs don't matter a whit when the instrument cluster is both identical and placed in the worst location ever (center of the dashboard) in the xA/xB/echo.

At least the Prius has a unique dashboard, complete with switchgear from the late '80s land cruiser. I love my parts bin special. :)

And the Corolla is the... Matrix?

    The Highlander is the RX350?

The 4Runner (or is it the sequoia) has a Lexus equiv, does it not? As does the Avalon?

Toyota is getting to be worse with the rebadging and parts bin crap than GM ever was.

    Actually Jonny,

The Camry platform is used in:

Camry, Solara, Avalon, ES, RX, Highlander and Sienna.

They also use the same engine.

Hell, VW used to use ONE platform for 3 cars (Golf, Jetta, Passat), until the new 1999 Passat got its own platform.

So platform sharing isn't the problem and I'm all for platform sharing in ANY company as it saves R&D cost. The difference is how WELL they can use the platform.

DCX uses the old SLK platform and comes up with the Crossfire. If I'm not mistaken, the old SLK probably performs better than the new Crossfire even though they're both using the same platform.

    There lies the difference.

80s LC eh? I guess the 2003 TL doesn't matter since its wiper/headlight stalks are also from the early 90s Accord that my friend has.

Kinda sucks eh? Esp. since the 02-06 Camry had stuff from the LS400, rather than from a 90s Corolla. haha.

    Hehe,

The big 3 can call it whatever they want. A gas slurping is a gas slurping.
