Finally it's snowing in ga. It could be nightmare for somebody but it's a good chance for me to test how well the prius can handle on the snow. Wish me luck!❄

Prius does great in the snow...if you have snow tires.

Snow tires in Georgia might be available by special order with a long lead time. That is the way it is mere in Virginia.

BTW, is it snowing here too.

No need for snow tires. My newly purchased conti truecontact will make the job done.

How much now? How much expected? Is the ground still warm enough to melt the snow from below?

Good Luck LOL! When we lived in Pa. I would leave the Prius in the garage and use my wife's Chevy Venture. The Prius is ok in light snow but when it's a lot on the ground the front end acts like snow plow since it's so low.

From half to an inch. The forecast expects 3 inch at 7 pm. I can hear the northern people laughing but hey it's a big deal in ga.

Actually I'm worried about people not the weather or road condition.

I only looked into snow tires when I was getting ready for a trip up to Toronto Canada one January. We ended up there for a record snowstorm. The Corolla stayed parked until we were ready to come home.

Our Prius is the one we drive in blizzards to go skiing. It does perfectly fine in the Rocky Mountains going up and down mountain passes with switchbacks. After about 6in on the road it is a plow, but it does plow.

Cars being driven in snow is more about skill than it is the car. The car can compensate for lack of skill (i.e. having 4wd) but for the majority of roads, it is just not an issue. Our FWD Prius will be climbing the switchbacks just fine as 4x4 Jeeps are off the side of the road or spun-out.

It's pretty bad when we're not set up for snow here in the Atlanta area. We have over 4" so far in my area (Sandy Springs, which borders Atlanta on the north side). My husband's car got stuck, and he is currently walking three miles home! Our area is very hilly, the roads are untreated, and we don't have snow tires, that's for sure!

As far as the Prius goes, I took a trip to the grocery store a few hours ago (at about 2" of snow), and (just barely) made it up an 8% grade hill in my neighborhood. The skid control light made a few appearances. I don't have great tires (just the inexpensive replacements it came with when we bought it used); they do fine in rain, but not ice/slush. I also didn't do a thorough job of clearing the hatch window (at the bottom, near the spoiler) and my wiper got stuck in the snow. That pile of snow I left on the spoiler was probably not good for the hatch struts, either. I forget how heavy snow is.

We live at the bottom of a 15% grade hill, and at noon (maybe 2-3" of snow at that point), it was already littered with abandoned cars and SUVs that couldn't make it up the hill.

  16. We're getting a double whammy, this weekend and then Tuesday. More on how things handle later.

Yep, but that's not a Prius problem. Our "hill" is also double digit grades and ascends over 2000ft in elevation. Prius even on the balding all seasons I got it with, makes it up fine. I've been to GA, and there aren't any hills the Prius can't tame.

    Be safe and warm!

i have trouble equating "double digit grades" and "balding all seasons" with "stay safe" lol. But to each their own.

Wow, snow in GA and TX and none in the Midwest yet. Very odd. You have to watch out for other drivers more than how much sow you get. Some people think they can drive just as fast as they normally do.

Of course I laugh, but Seattle now shuts down with that little snow too.
The closed hatch should be supported by the car frame, the struts should not be involved. Even when the hatch is open, any strut stress should be no greater than when you manually pull the hatch down to close it.
