Maxgreen Lvl 2 Charger (or other recommended cheap chargers)

    A faster charger would be especially nice if you ever have the chance to charge while out and about. I never do as free charging stations are just not anywhere I frequent... Maybe some day in the future...

    For me, moving from a 5+ hour home charge with L1 to a 1:50 charge with L2 was a fantastic improvement. Two hours between trips/errands is common where 5+ hours meant the car only fully recharged overnight and I was often heading out with a partial charge. Reducing the full charge time to about an hour would cover more cases but at 1:50, most of my trips currently start with a full charge.

    Charging has become part of the normal flow. Pull into garage, unbuckle seat-belt, open door, connect charger, walk into house...The charger sits right next to the car so it's super easy to just be part of the flow. It does create an extra step when carrying objects but charging has just become routine and not a noticeable task.

    But yes, in many things I value simplicity and convenience over saving a few pennies; especially when the savings might be imaginary.

    If that means that I don't take any crap from anybody........and that I don't hesitate to express my opinion.........and that I don't let things that are blatantly wrong go by unchallenged......then I guess you are right.
    I do NOT just jump on somebody out of the blue for no reason though.......as a few seem to be prone to do.

    I had not done the math, but it's a good question - so I did some math. At today's prices, it will pay for itself in 10 years if I average 3.1 additional miles driven in EV mode every single day vs what I would have gotten with just a lvl 1 charger). It's within the realm of possibility that I'll meet or exceed this. If the price of gas goes up, and/or the cost of electricity goes down, I will obviously do better.

    Here's my numbers:
    Cost of gasoline: $2/gallon
    Cost of electricity: $.08/kwh
    4.4 miles/kwh (from the display)
    55 miles/gallon in HV mode
    (BTW, I live in Texas which means both electricity and gasoline are relatively cheap compared to some parts of the country.)

    I am OCD, so plugging in each time I get home helps me avoid an anxiety attack ;-)

    Glad we are back on track. Thanks for sharing this info. I have a 5 mile each way commute to work. Like you I make it a point to plug in each night. With the colder weather and added errands after work, I don't think I could go more than one day to and from including errands. Charging from empty takes about 1.5 hrs. The good news is they are installing some additional charging stations at my work which is helpful as some days I have appointments that take me more than 20 miles, so it would be good to charge at work. Thanks again for your detailed information.

    But that does not require a high capacity charger.

    I almost hate to ask.......but did your "math" just figure the DIFFERENCE in charging rates of the standard 110 charger versus what you would gain with the 220 one ??

    My Clipper Creek charger is working fine. The following is from one of my other posts on home chargers:
    No matter which one you end up buying, I highly recommend the longest cord available, which seems for now is 25'. I just installed a plug in from ClipperCreek. LCS-20P, Plug-in 16 Amp Level 2 EVSE, 240V, NEMA 6-50 plug, with 25 ft cable $395. I was debating getting the more expensive models-"Future proofing". But decided to go cheaper.The Wi-Fi communicating ones are a nice feature, however using the Entune app that's already built in is cheaper and gives all the info you really need. So, in my opinion, that is a waste of money to buy the Wi-Fi models. It does not utilize any more than 3.3 kW. So anything more is just a waste. I plan on having the Prime for at least 5 years or longer. If your planning on changing EVs soon and will need more power, then it might pay to get the more expensive variety. I chose the plug in version because I also have a welder and plasma cutter that can use a 220v 40 amp line. I use the same plug for all. I ran the electric myself, so install was cheap as possible--Yes, I adhered to the local codes. Be sure and check the dimensions of the wall unit. Some of them stick out quite a ways and could be problematic for some installs. One last important note: Most of the units are tested, but make sure they have a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory, such as Intertek (ETL mark) or Underwriter’s Laboratory (UL mark) for safety. Sort of the GoodHouseKeeping Seal of approval. You don't want your house to burn down! I installed mine right between the two garage doors. Perfect fit. Can reach the car no matter which side of the garage it's in or just outside of the garage.

    FYI, I bought one that is 33 feet long. I wanted one 45feet long, but was told 33 feet was the max they could do to maintain stability.

    Oh yea....but you have to walk to the opposite side of the car that you exit on to plug it in. That is an awful lot of extra work! LOL!! ;)
