Feature Request Auto Lock Old Threads

    Threads should be automatically locked 6 months after the last post to reduce the number of old threads resurrected by new users posting their problem.

    New users need to start a new thread.

    As long as there's some way (with a mod's intervention, maybe) to add further directly relevant information to the old thread, so we don't end up with what's known about a topic being spread around over fifty amnesiac threads....

    Moderators currently add information to locked threads. I do not see that as an issue. They can also edit old posts.

    funny, reused to have a few members who would rip newbies for starting a new thread, when there were plenty old old ones to dig up. i haven't seen that refrain in awhile.

    It gets confusing to search for the start of the current issue, which may be unrelated to the thread topic.
    Current user ask questions or provide answers to people who have not been on PriusChat for years, expecting them to respond.

    Old threads are good for reference as research into an issue. If current advice is needed, a new thread is warranted, IMHO.

    Honestly I'm not sure why there's such a hatred for reviving old threads if the poster was asking a legitimate question or wanting clarification on something (not pointing at you specifically but it's just what I've noticed on other forums). I mean the worse that could happen is that everyone on that thread no longer frequents the site so that's on the poster to determine whether it's worth the risk of posting in an old thread or starting a new one.

    If the topic is relevant, I see no issue in continuing an old thread. For someone searching for information, it's easy to read a small number of large threads than to keep opening multiple threads with only a handful of posts.

    Sorry but I do NOT agree with that.

    Scattering a discussion of an essentially identical question or problem all over the place in different threads accomplishes nothing good.

    Does adding onto old threads cause you a problem ? If so, how and why ??

    If the part added really doesn't add to the original subject, then it can be stripped off into it's own thread.

    With one of the site interface shake ups, the date display went from prominent, top-of-posting, to smaller case, grey, bottom-of-posting. That doesn't help, it's easy to overlook.

    if you want attention, start a new thread. when you tack onto an old thread, people tend to overlook it.

    "People" who do the logical thing.....that is "New Posts".......each time they visit shouldn't miss anything that they don't want to.

    Actually I do "watched threads" first, then "new posts".

    I agree with Prodigyplace that it's unhelpful when somebody hijacks an old thread with something unrelated (this includes "hey, I've got the exact same problem!" from somebody with a warning light who hasn't even pulled the codes yet, and with bonus points if the original thread didn't have any either so there's no way to know if it's the same problem or not).

    As for posting a new solution or insight at the end of an old thread, as long as it's on point, I don't see a problem. Sure, it isn't in time to help the original poster, but it will be there for future reference when newcomers who think they have the same problem (and maybe even actually do) come by and read the thread.

    That is not bad. Your logic sure confuses me.

    IF.....it is a reasonable solution that wasn't mentioned before, that actually is a good thing to do.
    Unless, of course, the OP has reported a fix already.

    Some people actually DO look at old threads before posting questions.
