Yesterday I made my first new car purchase and bought the amazing 2017 Prius 2. Completely new to the prius technology and model and it would be great to hear from everyone about how to maintain and enjoy the new prius model. Would just about love any feedback on my new car! Thanks everyone!

I like your choice of exterior color. What kind of interior?

Congrats! I bought mine just about 1 year ago and couldn't be happier. 27,000+ miles and 56+ average miles per gallon! Now that we are back to cold winter weather here in the northeast I'm seeing a dip in miles per gallon, but still very happy with it.

In terms of maintenance, I've just brought it into the dealer for service every 5,000 miles, although I skipped 25k and going forward I think I'm just going to bring it in every 10k, since it seems in the 5k service visits they just rotate tires and check fluids, and I'm doing 10k miles every 4 months or so.

Good luck with it and enjoy!

Enjoy. Just drive it. Don't get too hung-up on issues like EV mode etc.

    I've had mine for 18 months, 23,000km, 4.1 l/100km [68.2 UK MPG (about 52 US?)]

There's lots of info on PRIUSCHAT if you search for it.

This SHORT video shows more-or-less how it works:

If you REALLY want to get into the "guts" of the PRIUS, this video, VERY LONG, show's how the transaxle works in GREAT detail:

I love the exterior went through so much to ensure I could get it! haha and black for the interior but planning on seat covers, living in California I'm worried about a lot of heat but I don't know if these seats absorb a lot or not. to davecook89t

Great info sclevine and alanclarkeau! Did either of you but the extended warranty or felt it was necessary?

Right, I wanted the Moonstone interior in a Four Touring with Sea Glass exterior and traveled far and wide before I found mine. I know getting stains on the white seats may be a concern, but so far so good. Black just seemed a little too common for my tastes.

No on the Warranty. The Prius is as bullet proof as any car sold in the US.

Just drive it and enjoy yourself. The Prius is a bit like someone of the opposite sex... difficult to understand at first, but great once you got to know them better. Oh, I almost forgot! Welcome to Prius Chat. (y)

Totally agree! Wanted the moonstone as well but it was pretty much impossible to find with the sea glass at the end of the year! But love your tastes!

Just keep up with your oil changes and keep your tires inflated to the right pressure. You'll love it.

My first Prius was a 2008 and I bought the extended warranty and never used it.

It only went back to the dealer for recalls and headlight bulbs under warranty.

I have had my new 2016 four for five weeks and love it.

It can be daunting. But I really recommend sitting down and reading your owners manual.

Agreed, but it takes a certain kind of mentality to press on after the first few pages.

Welcome to Prius Chat. No need for the warranty, everything is covered under the manufacturers warranty. When I bought my first one in 2008 everyone was concerned about the battery. After ten years I never had an issue or any other issues as far as that goes, just keep up with the recommended maintenance which isn't really much.

I personally received my new company car ['67 plate Business Plus in Decuma Grey] with 43 miles on the clock on the 4th December as a company car.

I had initially decided on a Ford Mondeo Titanium but I considered the Prius after the Benefit in Kind tax changes in April this year.
After trialling one for a week and comparing it to the Mondeo I was very impressed and with the added bonus of having quite a large amount of tax over the life of the vehicle it definitely decided it for me.
