16 K miles- the noise level when highway driving is beyond belief-- difficult to hear the radio and conversation is a strain. Tires are beginning to cup. Close a front door with a window open produces cheap noise, not a solid thump. Toyota agrees there is noise, but will do nothing about it. " that is the way they are".

    Any comments or help.

I would suggest you just buy new tires and don't over inflate them. That should take care of the unbearable road noise. and the cheap sounding noise......only close your door with the windows closed.

since the car is still under warranty, I would have the dealer check the front struts and rear shocks to make sure they are working properly. There shouldn't be abnormal tire wear to make the road noise.....if the shocks are bad, replace under warranty. You might want to have an alignment check done too.

buy quiet tyres, ex. michelin energy savers, and get an alignment for the cupping. i don't find mine that noisy with the oem tyres and 42/40. no, it's not a lexus. it's not even a camry, but it's mean mpg machine.:p

Bisco. Thanks for posting (back in '14).

What did you mean by "42/40"? Is that tire pressure?

We bought our 2013 Persona yesterday with 33K miles. The TPMS light was on and I found all tires were around 29 psi. I filled all to the recommended 33/32 and now can tell the ride is stiffer. Suggestions?

Finally, tires look around 50% worn. They are TOYO PROXES A20's. Are those the OEM?

Any other advice you could give me? Thanks. :)

TOYO tires are the OEM tires and they are not that great, on the noisy side too. You may want to upgrade to a nice Michelin tire for a nice quiet ride

We had the '13 Persona, and sold it after only 15 months due to the harsh ride and road noise on the OEM 17-inch wheel package. We also have the '14 Two on 15-inch wheels, and ride and road noise is so much better. Though if you really want a significantly quieter Prius, you need to step up to Gen 4. For your Persona, my thought would be to replace the 17-inch Persona wheels with a 15-inch wheel/tire package. The wider sidewalls will give a softer ride. You can probably sell the Persona wheels and recoup a good bit of your cost. They are a good looking wheel with a unique finish for Toyota...

'FuelMiser'. Thanks for the feedback. Was thinking the same thing on selling the Persona wheels. The tires are still in pretty good shape too. I'd use the funds to purchase 15" wheels and tires and, at the same time, find unique wheels that the wife would like. :)

As we hold cars for 10+ years, it'll be more like Gen 6 instead of Gen 4. But we're happy with it so far.

    Thanks again. :)

Thanks for the info. I've bought Michelin's for years and years. Costco has great prices too and they last forever. Once we decide to either replace tires or sell wheels/tires and swap our for 15" ones, we'll make the change.

If the door closing sound gets to you, look into dynamat. The doors were built in that way to save on gas :)

My non persona gen 3 probably has more noise than yours but no irregular tire wear 44/42psi. It's insanely loud as if it's taking bullets from all directions, not an overstatement either. The magladon fin antenna mod helps mask the excess tire noise also.
