If that is for a NEW Toyota pack that is a good deal. (As opposed to a rebuilt pack)

I don't know how much installation cost is.
As long as it isn't too crazy it seems worth it.

Uh, no. Replace the $250 part and see what happens before you replace the $2500 part.

When you already have the information telling you it's the $2500 part, it comes down to whether you'd rather spend $2500, or $2750 and have the problem longer.

When you also already have the information telling you it's also a $250 part (that often sends all kinds of incorrect info), choose to fix one thing at a time--least expensive first.

You can Google the part number and find the Toyota battery for $1699 now.

Steve in Arizona is offering the battery at $2000 installed. Amazing.

Toyota is aggressive in killing aftermarket competition. Dorman isn't even offering 3 years warranty anymore, now only 1 year. Toyota battery is a no brainer now at the lower prices

I was told over the counter retail price is right around $2,100. Down from ~$2,500.

This is a claim that has appeared on PriusChat so many times with no substantiation that it's getting a bit old.

Do you have an example where you can demonstrate that diagnostic codes retrieved from Prius ECUs did not mean exactly what they mean, and the state of the 12 volt battery was the cause? Even one?

Key word here is "demonstrate". That means your example will be one in which somebody: (a) did bother to read the codes; (b) did use the information from the repair manual to determine what actual operating conditions form the basis for reporting those codes; (c) did establish with actual testing that the reported conditions did not exist, and therefore that the codes were "incorrect info".

I've been watching PriusChat for years for a post that makes that claim and includes substantiation, and I'll happily change my tune if you show me one that I've missed.

Otherwise, the continued bandying about of this canard is a game played with $250 chunks of other people's money while delaying the solution of their problems, and that's not a thoughtful game to play.

I'm not sure what your point is here. The 12v battery does need to be replaced(and fully charged), regardless of what the clerks at Auotzone have pronounced. The false codes have been reported here quite often. As the 12v can be DIY for $150, it is prudent to replace that first and then see what, if anything, still needs to be replaced.

It's different in Phoenix, the cores from Phoenix are often crap and not usable. I think the $2000 price point is just to help recycle the unusable cores. It probably won't net more than $50 an hour after you consider travel time and installation. So not really a whole lot of money for a professional.

$1625 now at Olathe(Kansas City). So how much time do you need to charge for install?

So I guess a "regular" customer would probably get another 10% off those prices, bringing it to about $1500. So installing for $2000 would net you about $350 and extras would be taxes going to the government.

In CA if I were to charge $2000, I might be booked up for months and months LOL

    Hello all,

Quick update: I ordered a rebuilt from hometown hybrids. Set to be delivered and installed next week.

I want to also replace the 12v battery. Can you guys please offer some recommendations? It's for a 2006 prius.

I'll be sure to update on the install and the performance.

    Thanks.

I don't believe there is. We found a local installer, but havent had luck sourcing a battery from a reputable company we are comfortable with that is closer to where she lives. I'm sure they're out there, but our research suggest hometown is a solid choice so we when with them

As it turns out, the rebuilds aren't lasting very long. When ours comes due, I'll be jumping on the new $1625 price for a genuine, new Toyota pack. Any 12v battery is fine, just be sure to fully charge it and keep it fully charged.

if you don't go oem, make sure it's the right size, sks or non sks, terminal posts in correct orientation and diameter, and vent tube ready.
