In getting quotes for the 30k tune up on my 2006 Prius they ranged from $149 to over $300.
One shop said that it doesnt really need all that much, but my mileage has dropped off to about 40mpg even with 40-38 psi cold in my threads .

What could be the cause of the mpg drop?

Also the engine doesnt make the smooth transition from battery to gas theres a little "hiccups" effect like one might get from bad fuel but I vary gas stations due to my travels.
Oh yes, I change oil every 4k.

well, first of all, if it is cold where you live, the mpg drop is due to weather.
Second, follow the service schedule that came with your Prius.
Welcome to Priuschat... there is a lot of information available. Check out the Newbie threads. :)

Did this tune up you did actually help your issue, i'm having the same issue. It startedabout 2.5 yrs after I got my Prius. i love my car I just want it running at max!, my big issue is the rough transmission change between gas and electric, lil loud. only getting 37-40mpg and drive long distances.

The battery to engine transition is always rougher when the car is cold. Please specify if you are experiencing the roughness when cold or after the car is warmed up.

Have your 12v battery checkout out. It can cause a loss in MPG if it is dying. The engine will not turn off as often as it should if it is needed to keep recharging the 12v.

    Hi Monica

Instead of bumping really old threads like this, you'll get better help if you start a new thread detailing your specific issues and including as much relevant information as possible.

Just click on the "New Thread" button (there's one near the top of the main thread list page and another one near the bottom). No one will complain if you make the new thread right here in the "main forum", but it would probably be even better suited in either the "care and maintenance" or the "Fuel Economy" forums. :)

I'm glad you said to make a New Thread Uart- a new thread on a new issue is the best idea! Nobody should mind.
