If you mean a Dorman battery, I believe you are correct. That is another disadvantage of dealing with companies like that. They lock you out of trading in the core for a new Toyota battery.

Couldn't get core charge back, took one look at orange cover and shut it down, manager said if I can put a silver cover on it he would try and send it, if they accepted it he would refund me.

    Any advice?,

Thanks for all the help so far.

I wouldn't take one either. But I'm mildly surprised that the dealer won't take the dorman for the core, unless it's simply that they can't easily re-use the cover. I'd think that the other parts would recycle just the same.

It's a further discouragement from buying used from somebody else, along with a penalty thrown in.
At least @2k1Toaster lets you keep your core.

I believe @TMR-JWAP has taken failed remanufactured batteries before. I remember him evaluating it in one of his threads.

Yeah wish I knew that before I bought the car, or battery. Oh well do you guys see Toyota accepting the core if the dealership sends it with an oem cover

They should. Really Dorman just paints them. If you've got a lot of time and elbow grease, I think you could make it shine silver again...

Salvage yards are cleaned out :(, does anyone know how long you have to get a refund on the core charge?

That is a question for your dealer. It may vary depending on their policies.

The dealers I have worked with generally return the core fee as soon as I turn in the core. No delay.

In post 24 it appears the dealer did not initially accept the core. They then ask the question how long after purchase do they allow you to return the core to the dealer?

    OK. Got it.

It depends on the dealer how will wait for you to return the core.

Maybe only a few days? Maybe a few weeks?
You'll have to discuss it with your dealer.

So does that mean that at 106k miles your Prius had already gone through two HV batteries prior to installing this new one? Just out of interest, how long was the Dorman battery installed before failing?

Assuming your in Murray PA, I'm 202 miles away from you in tropical Buffalo N.Y.
If you were interested in meeting me half way (Just north east of bath NY where 390/I86 meet) I would be willing to trade an acceptable factory complete silver cased core battery for your orange doorman battery for $100.

You have a strange definition of tropical.
I assume you are offering a Gen 2 battery and not one from your PiP.

Pretty sure Ken had at least one project Prius, probably to avoid cabin fever in the tropics ;).

Was the last one the one with a hole in the engine block?
