This is my first day diving my new to me Prius. I watched the video on pulse and glide, which is going to take lots of practice. While driving I was watching the levels on the battery and it got down to two or three? Is this normal?

yes, it can go anywhere from two purple to full green, but usually hovers around 5 or 6 blue.

I feel ignorant here. I don’t remember any colors on the battery screen. I was watching screen that shows charge and power on opposite ends. I’m sure it has a name...

not at all. go to the hsi; hybrid system indicator screen. it has the horizontal power bar that tells you throttle position, regen, eco and power. the battery is in color there.

I will check it out. I was just worried that it was low. This is going to be fun learning how to maximize the mpg’s.

Wait a minute, so your saying the battery that shows 8 bar segment is in color. How come this feature is not in my prius?!

On the upper dash, with the speedometer, on my 2012 the battery icon is the same monochrome green color as everything else, no matter the charge level. On the MFD (the screen with the backup cam and the radio on it) I think it is in color if you use the energy monitor screen. Can't really say for sure as I haven't used that screen in a long time.

be advised that if you cycle the HV battery like this often, it will fail sooner. when you pulse and glide, glide with no electric propulsion effort (HSI at zero).
