If you have never changed a fuse in your Prius you're in for a treat.

The fuse block is located to the right of the parking brake at the 12:00 location. Yep facing towards the floor and yes you have to lay on your back and twist your body to the right to get under the dash to change one of the fuses.

Let me tell you this is not a fun job if no one tipped you off to what you need to do the job.

First of all the fuse block is white and really small like two inches by four inches if you are not paying attention you'll miss it.

On top of that Toyota uses the micro blade fuses in their cars and they're tiny.

[IMG] Next you'll need to get either a small pair of needle nose pliers, small pair of hemostats or a pair of scissor handled tweezers to get one of these fuses out. Think small object bad angle and held in tightly. I ended up using scissor handles tweezers to remove the blown power outlet fuse. If you use a regular pair of tweezers two problems arise, either you crush them squeezing so hard to grip the fuse or you won't be able to get enough finger pressure to hold onto the fuse as you pull to remove it.

I ended up using a pair of scissor handled tweezers with a heavy tip like these.

Just to let you know what you're dealing with and that it might be a good idea to get a pair to toss in your Prius console just in case you ever need to change a fuse on the road.

If you look in the engine-compartment fuse box, you'll find a plastic fuse puller. It's white and tweezerlike, and shaped exactly right for pulling those low-profile ATM fuses out of their slots.

Yes, it's a little weird to have to remember to pop the hood and grab the puller out of that fusebox when you want to pull a fuse from the inside one. But I guess they figured you only really need one.

ALS, thanks for the detailed explanation on interior fuse location. I have another question I hope someone can answer. I need to replace the fuse for power outlet, (aka cigarette lighter outlet): I believe it’s 15a, So once I take the plastic cover off unit holding fuses, is there a way to drop down the fuse box, in order to see, read and insert new fuse? It’s so hard to maneuver around that location.Thank you all in advance for responding. My Prius is a 2010, which I bought new and this is first fuse I have had to replace! I hope I succeed.

Nope, you'll have to lay down on your back with your legs hanging out of the driver's door opening to replace that fuse. ;)
