This magnetic phone mount is one of the best. It's the only one I've ever liked.

First off, I am in no way affiliated with these guys. I just like the mount, and got a couple uber cheap recently, one for my Prius Plug-in 2012, and one for my wife's RAV4 Hybrid 2016. This is from a Canadian shop, but I'm sure you can find something similar elsewhere.

Here's a video they linked on their website.

Below is the base of the mount in my Prius. Basically, all it is a round metal ball on a base which has an adhesive on the bottom. Find a place to stick it on the dash.

And then put the metal disc on it. It can tilt in any direction you want.

And then stick a metal disc on the back of your phone case. The adhesive is very, very strong, so don't expect to take it back off and re-adjust it. Unfortunately that means if you screw up alignment like I did, it will stay that way. I have it in the right spot, but it bugs me to no end that the text is off kilter. :(

Also, I might be wary of putting the sticker right on the back of the phone itself, unless you don't care about the condition of the surface later.

It goes on an off the mount very easily, but it doesn't fall off with bumps. Furthermore, in the 2012 Prius Plug-in, even my big iPhone 7 Plus with the metal disc (for the magnetic mount) placed where it is, easily clears the cover for the cup holder if there is no cable plugged in, and doesn't significantly obscure the rear windshield defroster button. It does cover the ECO and PWR mode buttons, as well as the hazard button though.

If you plug in the Lightning cable, you'll have to tilt the bottom up a little to clear the open cup holder cover. Or else you can just close the cup holder cover, or else rotate the bottom of the phone to the right.

With an iPhone 7 Plus and thick case, it doesn't work well in landscape mode in this location, as the shifter gets in the way. It's doable, but not ideal. However, I chose this location anyway because I always use it in portrait mode. It would be fine with an iPhone 8 or iPhone X in landscape though.

Note, I have not yet tried the Nimbus shifter mount. That is basically the same idea, but of course requires you remove the shifter head. I'm not really liking the idea of a weight on the shifter. Some people have noted that with a heavy phone + case, it makes it too easy for the shifter to shift into B.

The other factor is that the Nimbus mount is about CAD$60 up here. This Prime Cables mount is currently $5.

if only toyota would provide a decent place for a phone in the nightmare instrument panel/flying bridge/dashboard area.

Great idea, but I was mightily disappointed to find they will only ship to Canada , so, after telling them (via chat) that they were missing a wonderful biz. opportunity (…I lied when I told them I was interested in purchasing 1,000+ units!). …but after some research, I was able to find this on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00T0I54Q8 /ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Yeah, that looks absolutely identical, except for the disc, which is nicer, without a line of text to put off kilter like I did.

As expected, it seems it's sold under numerous different brands.

I have the Nimbus mount and have replaced the shift knob:).

    Works like a charm ;).

Too bad it is so expensive north of the 49th parallel .

I tried a magnetic mount for a while but scrapped it once I got a wireless charger. Wouldn't work thanks to the disk you stick on the back of the phone. Plus, it fell off the mount a few times after hitting some hard bumps.
