This coolant meets Toyota specs at walmart online; Valvoline Asian Vehicle Formula Antifreeze 871668 was $8.38 a few days ago now $11.97.
    I'm new...says I can't post links yet.

    • Silicate free, phosphate Hybrid Organic Acid Technology

Somebody's making Toyota''s coolant, and possibly they're also retailing it under another name, cheaper. Or what they make for Toyota might be unique.

All considered, not worth gambling. Same story as the transaxle fluid. And for me even the brake fluid, it's a once in a while, trivial expense.

I'm starting to catch on, lol. You've posted the same message in three threads.

Thank you so much for this bulletin! I have been accidentally using the red to top off our '12 Prius v and was panicking today when I realized there might be a difference!

to be fair, the memo talks about pink LLC used in japan that may not be the pink SLLC available in USA.
if your top off was small, that shouldn't be an issue. being in CA, distilled water is fine for small top offs, especially if evaporation and no leaks..
for the record, i used zerex asian in mine. the valvoline flavor is cheaper, but blue.

the best bang for the buck is this: OEM Concentrate, Extended Life, Radiator Antifreeze Coolant, Pink | 879899 | Pep Boys

    Thank you.

So Zerex is not Valvoline? (I thought it was. Very confused)!

So far the difference I saw, not reading every bread crumb of this thread, is that red that I had in stock for our '04 Sienna has diethylene glycol, in about 4-5%, which diluted would be 2 - 2.5%. Whether significant, I have no clue....

the difference is in the anti-corrosion additives. LLC is good for 3 years, SLLC is for 10 years.

Best bang for the buck stuff comes from valvoline asian formula sold at walmart. $11.99 everyday and often goes on sale for $8.99.

I didn't click your link, but usually the CONCENTRATED stuff is good for only 30,000 miles, the premix stuff is usually good for 50,000-100,000 miles

if you didn't click then you don't know this concentrated is extended life, "up to 150,000 miles or 5 years."

I did say "usually" concentrates are like that. Example: Toyota coolants.
